Why did Luke use this during the battle of Hoth instead of his X-wing?
>>
>>80293875
What would his x-wing have done any differently to the SS?
>>
>>80293875
The X-wing was in the shop
>>
>>80293875

an x-wing is a SPACE fighter

an air speeder is an atmosphere fighter

an x-wing would probably run out of fuel in 10 minutes of a atmosphere battle

>inb4 JJ
>>
>>80293988
X-wings were shown doing atmospheric runs long before JJ.
>>
>>80294021

when?

the death star was the only time which is "a small moon" which has shit for all gravity
>>
>>80294021
NOT CANON
>>
>>80293875
>Why did Luke use this during the battle of Hoth instead of his X-wing?
So they could manufacture and sell a new line of toys to dump on kids who already had X-wings from the first movie

There is a line in the film very clearly stating that they were having a lot of trouble adapting the X-Wings for use in the freezing atmospheric conditions of Hoth, whereas the airspeeders were much more compatible
>>
>>80294150

oldfag here

the toys market share back then was hardly what it is today. most kids didn't even see starwars still it came out on tv, hardly something I believe studios based major design points over, now its a whole different story since the main demo for the toys is manchildren

(transformers and gi joe were hot shit yeah, because they were on afterschool tv every day)

Uh no, "oldfag" Star Wars revolutionized toy merchandising. The original 13 figures sold out before they were even commercially available, you had to buy a ticket then redeem them when they got into shops. It was a stroke of genius on Lucas' part to arrange the deal with Kenner. One of the complaints thrown at ESB was how they had introduced things (like the bounty hunters) strictly to sell toys.
>>
>>80294177
>>80294143
>it's not freezing in space
>>
>>80294177

no the line was about adapting the speeders, which is why they could only use ton tons to go look for luke..
>>
>>80294359
It's actually not as freezing in space as people think. The ambient temperature is almost absolute zero but because space is a vacuum there's not air or anything to transfer heat to so actually heat buildup can be a problem instead of cold. You are now in a physics discussion about Star Wars.

>>80294424
Oh shit yeah you're right, my bad.
>>
>>80294095
Episode 6? They were using them for fireworks at the end.
>>
>>80294530

probably didn't give a shit about fuel to make a few victory flyovers (not tactical combat) now the dark times of the empire were over

>inb4 JJ again
>>
>>80293875
It's a snow speeder
It performs better in low temperature as well as 2 people
>>
>>80294296
Bah
It wasn't the same as today
Regardless
Snow Speeder was rad as fuck
Button press landing gear
And
And
AND
actual laser cannon firing projectiles
>>
>>80294296

Lucas was smart as fuck, but the real impact of toy merchandising didn't hit until years later

That was when I was a kid very few other kids i knew had any of these. The shortage you talk about was just because they literally didn't make enough still not expecting it.

Was only really by the prequels merch became an all encompassing part of production
>>
>>80294751
>Was only really by the prequels merch became an all encompassing part of production
Exactly
He changed the game but the game ACTUALLY changed then
I remember not being able to find the Millennium Falcon when empire came out
Got it for birthday and was only kid around that had it
>>
>>80294970
Imagine if you had kept it in a box instead of playing with it. You could sell it today and retire.
>>
>>80294213
What? No. I was poor and I still had a shitload of the action figures. Bazillions sold. The rich kids had the Falcon and the AT AT though.
>>
>>80293875
One more toy to put on the shelves.
>>

>no wings for atmospheric

seems logical
>>

Jesus. I can imagine myself trying desperately to get at that shit and *not* succeeding.
>>
>>80293875
it wasn't 'his' x-wing.
>>
>>80293875
what you just said is fucking stupid.
its just like saying why didnt luke use the x wing for the speeder bike in the forest moon of endor
Air speeder is an air speeder made for hoth.
why would he take a space dog fighter to fight on hoth.
yet alone a non hoth standard ship just for the heck of "oh he has an x wing so why not just use that"

>A few of the pilots laughed humorlessly. One of them was a
teenaged fighter jockey seated next to Luke who bore the unlikely name of
Wedge Antilles. Artoo Detoo was there also, seated next to another Artoo
unit who emitted a long whistle of hopelessness.
"A two-meter target at maximum speed--with a torpedo, yet,"
Antilles snorted. "That's impossible even for the computer."
"But it's not impossible," protested Luke. "I used to bulls-eye
womp-rats in my T-16 back home. They're not much bigger than two meters."
"Is that so?" the rakishly uninformed youth noted deerisively.
"Tell me, when you were going after your particular varmint, were there a
thousand other, what did you call it, 'womp-rats' armed with power rifles
firing up at you?" He shook his head sadly.

kek
>>
>>80295656

sfoils != wings, they're weapon mounts

meanwhile the snow speeders have a wide base for repulsor technology which all speeders are based on

I'm pretty sure you already knew but just wanted a shitshow, OP.
>>
>>80296060
in perfect seriousness anon I would have thought that because it is hardly any bigger than a snowspeeder an A-Wing could be made to serve and serve well in such circumstances
>>
>>80295584
>>80294970
why was the falcon so hard to get

when I was a kid remember wanting one
>>
>>80296186
Too fast to maneuver in a tight land-air battle.
>>
>>80293875
Snowspeeder is designed to be more maneuverable in atmosphere. The X-Wing would be to fast and would not have the turn radius.
X-Wings guns would be more powerful though. A combined attack would be ideal. Luke should have been providing air support until evac and then escorted the fleet. Unless there was a shortage of pilots.
>>80295630 This is also true
>>
>>80294213
Oldfag as well.
This is bullshit. Nothing moved faster than Star Wars toys. So many alternatives of the same character. Fucking action figures of aliens that appeared for a few seconds.
>>
same reason you dont use street bikes in the snow and vice versa. its just not what its for
>>
>>80294751
I was 5 when ESB came out. Every kid I knew had SW toys then.
>>
>>80295741

>Dack was no Jansen, poor bastard
This is the makings of a good meme
>>
>>80295988
>13

Only the first 4 were in the Early Bird pack you're talking about. The first wave of figures to hit retail consisted of 12 figures. 8 were added later, then Boba Fett.
>>
>>80295889
Fuck I kek'd. 10/10 well played
>>
>>80294021
only in now non canon sources I'm afraid
>>
>>80298492
I sent away for Boba fettuccine before empire came out
Proof of purchase from the figures cut from the packaging and sent in
>>

>It's actually not as freezing in space as people think. The ambient temperature is almost absolute zero but because space is a vacuum there's not air or anything to transfer heat to so actually heat buildup can be a problem instead of cold. You are now in a physics discussion about Star Wars.
This is basic knowledge for anybody serious about engineering.
>>
>>80293875
Might be too fast to manuever in that kind of battle.

Imagine trying to do strafing runs in WW2 with an F35 instead of a propeller plane
>>
god i hate fanfic.
you just make stuff up to explain the retarded shit.
>>
Why didn't the empire send tie fighters down to the surface to support the walkers?????
>>
>>80293875
How would they sell the toys otherwise?
>>
>>80298607
Same reason there wasn't any x-wings.
>>
>>80293897
Blown the ATAT apart like the x-wing in Rogue One
>>
>>80298607
tie fighters tend to burn up on reentry if you're in a hurry
they have no shields and are made of paper mache
>>
Back in the day, Lionel Playworld had an ENTIRE AISLE of nothing but Star Wars toys. Nothing from 1999 to today even compares with the sheer volume Kenner moved back then. The only reason a kid didn't have a Falcon or AT-AT is because their parents couldn't afford it, not because they were rare.
>>
>>80298649
>Lionel Playworld
Who the fuck is that?
>>
>>80298543
Fuck yeah. I sent away for all of the ones after Boba. Still have my cardboard backs with the little blue & white circles cut out.
