I saw it in the theater, and it was legitimately the hardest I've ever laughed at a movie. That part when he wrestles that dude naked, I was laughing how black people laugh where they're rolling all over the place and gasping for air.

Sadly the magic disappears after the first time you see it. Plus everyone ran it into the ground with all their "GREAT SUCCESS" quotes. I'd be kind of curious to see how it holds up since I haven't seen it since it came out on DVD.

I saw it in the theater with some friends. One was my friend's pinoy girlfriend who was around 30. She couldn't understand why it was funny and thought it was really sad, that he came to America and didn't find anything good here. I think what most people fail to realise is that most of the humour is based on Satire, in a shallow reading it's all slapstick which is true. But for the most part the film is about not about foreigners having funny beliefs, it's about Americans are stupid enough to believe these ridiculous assumptions and prejudices they have about people for 3rd world countries.

this is the genius of borat. It is meant to hold a mirror up to americans warped perception of the rest of the world, while also being genuinely funny.

The people who left the theater saying "whoa people from Kazakhstan/foreigners are so weird!" are the joke.

this was somewhat the same idea that was attempted with bruno but it didn't work as well because it turns out, rampant ass-fucking and male nudity makes the average movie goer uncomfortable, plus gay folks really can be that obnoxious and flamboyant sometimes. So its satire fell a bit flat and it made people uncomfortable, I still think its a decently funny movie.
