HDTV is the worst version there is?

btw, is there a webm where his uncle shows how to fuck the system?
just rewatching s1 made me realize he throw the rocks to the martian police.

but he shouldn't die in the process.... didn't tycho station saved him as well? why not?

The uncle died. The Martian patrol ship zapped his ship. Diogo was left floating in space where presumably he got picked up so Miller could mercilessly constantly rib him about his space-virginity.

Wonder if Mars will ever disclose its drug problem with the rest of the system?

What a shitshow of an episode.

If they cant get her suit feed working by next episode this series is officially dead. Like literally everyone knows that it is a protomolecule monster that killed everyone, just show us it already.

Someone who remembers the books better, did it take Bobbie this long to remember? As far as I remember she could formulate what happened pretty soon, it was just that fixing the antique suit took some time so they got proof.

The term 'spacing someone' has been around since Clarke, Asimov, Herbert, et al.

Should rename this 'The Dawes Episode.' he's just roaming around Tycho buttering them all up: Fred, Drummer, Naomi, and even Diogo. The man just does not stop.

They're stretching out the events on Ganymede it looks like. I got the impression from the book that the whole breakdown-of-society thing there took place over a week and change. If they're only just dispatching the Roci there now it's going to take much longer.

In the books;
Bobbie knew all along about the monster. The Martians believe her, because they just look at her suit guncam footage and see she's telling the truth. Earth also knows, because they have loads of orbital footage of the battle happening.

Honestly all the pointless tension in the show compared to the books kinda annoys me. There's already enough intrigue and suspense without having to make up extra stupid shit.

Never read the books and the series is doing fine from my perspective. Sucks to be a bookfag I guess.
>>
>>80229845
I really don't think we are going to see the proto soldier tearing through marines. Moving the virtual camera around CGI boxes in empty space and showing explosions is one thing, having a CGI humanoid tearing though the armor of live actors is quite another. Better to just show the aftermath to save money.
>>
Someone needs to kill that Bobbie bitch. Who the fuck does she think she is acting all cocky towards Earthers?
>>
I understand now why we had that silly side plot about the Martian marines before. I thought it was a stupidly useless plot line that didn't lead anywhere that did more to showcase the inability of those extras to act than to establish any grounds for further development. But now I understand it was to build them up such that the emotion Bobbie feels for their loss feels more real. The CGI tears would have meant very little if her team hadn't been the least bit fleshed out.

Did this mirror catastrophe even happen in the book? If I did my math right geostationary orbit is inside Ganymede. That means the mirrors had to be one of the Lagrange points. I don't have the time to figure out how to do the math right now.

It just seems unlikely that the mirror debris would so suddenly destroy the dome before they could prepare.

>>

What's there to prepare for? Mirror is a couple thousands tons of metal and glass raining down. Even if it missed dome there's the shockwave from all that mass enough to maybe pop the bubble.
>>
>>80239125
That happened in the books aswell.

>>
>>80239125
In the books it takes many hours for the mirror shards to fall, only really allowing time for people to evacuate the domes.
But the big problem wasn't the impact itself, it's what the impact caused: complete destruction of their food harvest & delicate ecosystem, leading to wide-spread famine.
>>
>>80239125
The mirrors destroy the domes but pretty much everyone is evacuated underground beforehand. In the books what kills most of the people is the ensuring humanitarian crisis and lack of food.
>>
They're really slow-burning this part of the season, aren't they? Which strikes me odd because Caliban's War was such a page-turner.
At this rate they'll barely make it halfway through the events of the books.
>>
>>80232120
Same thing with GoT. It's much easier to watch now that there is no book to reference to. Season 1 was basicly the book at verbatim so nobody complained but with the diverging storylines things had to be changed. Bookfags couldn't handle it.
>>
>>80228706
Book spoilers, obviously

Bobbie knew about the monster all along, and so did the MCRN, who saw her gun-cam footage, and the UNN knew as well, but Bobbie was the only living witness.

Generally speaking, things get rolling a lot quicker in the book because there's a sense of urgency regarding the Ganymede Incident. The show is trying to up the tension and slowly build towards something.
Problem is, the event they're building up to (which I won't go over) isn't exactly a good season finale, since the book's pacing is a lot better and the events & timing makes more sense.

So, for some reason I can excuse this show for not simulating the effects of low-G living on the various populations. I think I give it a pass because they lampshade it often enough in dialogue, and it would look utterly stupid if everyone looked like that stringbean extra that asthma-lady interrogated in S1.

However, sound in space drives me crazy because it would be so easy to fix, and it's also something commonly known. If they're striving to be hard-sci-fi (plus aliums, which is fine), why are they making the mistake that even sci-fi plebes know is wrong?

Sometimes you can excuse hearing sounds during space battles because the characters on the ships would obviously hear their own engines and weapons firing, and explosions would make noise on the ship upon which they're occurring. However, hearing two ships worth of sounds in one unbroken shot doesn't make sense. Likewise, you should never hear missiles thrusting once they've left the tube.

The other small annoyance is that the bullets are all tracers. You would never need/want tracers in space unless you're dumb-firing a gun. Even if you're firing it manually, ship weapons are still fired via a screen, and the screen can just project the bullet trajectory arc artificially. Tracers are for when you're looking with your own eyes and have no computer targeting. They might make sense on a squad-level heavy weapon meant to fire on vehicles, but even the marines have targeting software in their HUDs.

They don't do no sound in space because it would be fucking boring to watch. It's such a foreign concept , even though everyone knows it's true. It would disengage the audience
>>
>>80246403

One possible excuse for the tracers is that almost all the ship guns we've seen are gatling guns. Gatling guns glow red hot even when fired continuously in air environments. In space theres no matter to radiate the heat to through convection, all you have is radiation. Both the barrels and the projectiles would be red hot leaving the barrel and stay that way for a fairly long time. But from the footage we dont see the barrels glowing so my point is already moot.

he's a navy pilot who just wasn't assigned an armed ship. he has the same training any other navy pilot would have, which would include boarding actions.

moreover, given how rare actual combat is currently in this standoff/cold war setting, he probably has as much combat experience as all but the saltiest vets in the system.

moreover, if you kill any of the Roci's crew, you're basically a criminal as far as belters are concerned. they're heros even if they might be doing shit you disagree with.

you could beat them up or stop them without going completely evil and being blacklisted by your support, but not kill them. conversely, the protags could basically shoot people down in that scenario and be justified and forgiven by the rest of the divided OPA and belters

I've no doubt that the poor on earth will never make it to space, but however we manage to get off this planet, the first thing we'll do is settle into a pecking order based on our roles. labor and management, owners and users, networked and isolated... whatever. someone always gets to be poor.

Getting out to the asteroids in the first place, and operating the expensive mining equipment once there, safely and without injury, means that the workers will probably actually be very skilled and well compensated until space travel becomes very cheap. Think of it like the guys nowadays who go out to the oil rigs and make six figures.

I don't see why a lot of them wouldn't be Black or any other race, but it depends on demographic trends. Right now the sort of skilled blue collar labor who would go to do work like this would be mostly White and Hispanic in Western countries, and obviously Asian in Eastern countries. Blacks would have to do some catching up to be able to populate the Belt like in the show.

The alternative answer is that the Epstein Drive and similar technologies made space travel in the show's universe sufficiently easy and cheap that unskilled workers are now cost effective o use in asteroid mining, in which case the workers going up there would mostly come from developing countries, making the Belt as racially diverse as it is in the show

Shitty cans come later, first there's a very precarious science experiment needing highly intelligent and competent people. Honestly, that's the only viable answer. If you read the books, you pretty much see that they had a really cool idea that they show in the first book. Not sure if this is just two /pol/acks talking but inverse you guys are thinking of Luna. They're the rich guys exploiting everything for maximum gain, mostly asians and whites. These colonies came first as they didnt have the Epstein 'made-up bullshit' drive.

Mars was its own thing, a group of people dedicated to the terraforming project, because the chinese, indians and some texans were sick of living in such shitholes. So the left and started a colony. Acolony that only exists because of Epstein being a Martian and them trading the drive for their freedom.

And the Belters are the poor fucks that are getting exploited 24/7 by everyone else so why wouldnt they be minorities? They'er sent out there on shit pay in the worst conditions with only enough money to continue doing what they're doing.

Hope you faggots enjoy reading.

Last post you get you worthless troll. No, a reactor is not at all a bomb just because they both involve fusion reactions. And FOR THE THIRD TIME you can easily have a setup that has no release of any radioactive material. I can't believe I wasted so many posts on such a worthless shitposter.
>>
>>80254465
It has nothing to do with belief. They were going to use her as a scapegoat to avoid war no matter what her story was. If anything they could use the monster story justify that her story of not firing first is all part of the same delusion.

The bit Dawes said about the truth and how useful it sometimes is and isn't is actually pretty fitting for this episode. It's like they intended on an overarching theme to the episode as a whole.
>>
>>80254545
>And FOR THE THIRD TIME you can easily have a setup that has no release of any radioactive material.
Calm down. You keep saying it but what the hell is the propellant if not fusion byproducts? The ships don't require vast quantities of xenon or some other propellant.
>>
>>80254465
Because no one really knows what the protomolecule does. Only a couple people have seen space zombies, and they still don't really know wtf they are. How quick would you be to believe that someone who recently got their shit handed to them in a ziplock was done to by a naked glowing crystal corpse that mowed down 2 "elite" combat teams and let that one person live - with all the recorded data conveniently kaput?
>>
>>80254491

They still didn't believe her. Rather they believe she saw something weird, but they weren't going to take her story at face value. That's a part of what causes her to lose faith in the Martian cause in addition to them just wanting her to help them spin it to fit their own agenda, as you said.
>>
>>80254660
Why are you even mad about a show you don't watch?
>>
>>80254558
>They were going to use her as a scapegoat to avoid war no matter what her story was.
But why? Literally why lie about firing on the UN giving them all the grounds to push back. They just got a moon blown out of the sky and instead of fighting back they lube up? Is it just so we sympathize more with Bobbie more? Its just poor story telling IMO.

>>80254636
>with all the recorded data conveniently kaput?
This also makes no sense.

But why wouldnt you believe the ONLY witness that could only remember after you gave her a memory drug?

I just hate the depiction of Mars citizens. The first one we've seen was pure and proud aryan and it should have stayed this way.
>>
>>80254757
>makes no sense
The naked glowing crystal space zombie jammed all the recording electronics.
I wouldn't take that at face value because it's a fucked up story with nothing they can see to back it up.

So how does book discussion go here normally? I wanna chat about the end of Babylon which is recently reread.

So at the end of the book Avasarala points out that they'll need a 'spacers guild' to maintain control of the gates and shipping between the planets and suggests Belters do it. My question is why? Belters are the worst choice by far as they cant stand high G's, have shit infrastructure and no leadership what so ever. They are also constantly infighting and have shown no ability to work together at all, or with the other factions. How does any of this mean they're a good candidate for running the single most important hub for humanity?

The high G thing alone should be enough as having them unable to stand 1 G of thrust during flight is wasteful enough when talking about flight times.
>>
>>80254835
>jammed all the recording electronics.
Then how did the drone work? Or the suits of Armour? Or the Guns? These were all electronic too. The radio fucking up is not a good reason for a video recording to stop working.
>>
>>80254465
I think they do that to hide that they know about the ayy on Ganymede. They probably even have the recordings too, but the marine doesn't need to know that.

Or maybe they are just retarded. I mean, they have niggers commanding ships, you can't expect much thought from them.
>>
>>80254757
Because they aren't lunatics and will do everything in their power to stay away from the brink.
>>
>>80254928
In the book it's described as a part of the abilities of the creature, not just a passive ability, and it was autistic in its objectives. It didn't really care about getting royally fucked up so long as it could proceed to it's objective. Bobby managed to hinder it, so it disabled her. I think the creature was described as being more monstrous too though, not so human looking.
>>
>>80254965
>but the marine doesn't need to know that.
That would be a way to explain it that I would be happy with. Well put Anon.

>>80255009
>will do everything in their power to stay away from the brink.
And they do this by saying
>So we totes shot up your guys, fucked you in space and ruined one of the most important asteroids in the Belt.
>Soz lol

All while knowing that that isnt true. K.
>>
>>80255084
>In the book it's described as a part of the abilities of the creature
In the books the video recording works just fine.
>>
>>80255154
Really? I thought they eventually got the data from the drone.
>>
>>80255113
And? They were obviously negotiating with Earth and for their side of the bargain they offered to take the blame for a situation neither side had any definitive proof about who started.
>>
>>80255180
No Bobbie wakes up tells her story, they dont believe her till she mentions her suit is an older version which is mentioned beforehand, they check it out then apologize. This is just the writers being incompetent.
>>
>>80255182
>And?
And even if your idea was true that Martian would still want all the information they could get about what really happened just in case. They wouldnt lean on and ignore the person they're relying on and need to lie for them. Its makes no sense do they expect her to take it sitting down?
>>
>>80255239
Well shit. What am I thinking about with the jamming, then? Didn't it screw with her armor somehow, and she still managed to get some good shots in?
>>
Who was the marsbro who was the last survivor on the roci in s1 or whatever? Generic chicano name, Lopez, Mendez or something like that? He should have lived desu he was a top bro
>>
>>80255321
>Didn't it screw with her armor somehow
No.

As the Martains for up to fire on the UN marines Bobbie notices the Monster and her and her team try to save the UN Marines. They all get rekt however. She remembers all of this and demands that they respect the UN soldiers and tell everyone the truth.
>>
>>80255309
The Martian government knows jack shit about the proto-molecule and that captain even less so. If I were the captain I'd chalk her account up to PTSD and sedate her before the daughter of a friend of yours outs herself as a lunatic and ruins her military career.

There are any number of possible rationalizations of what happened in the show. There are parts of this show that don't make sense no matter how you try to rationalize it and this isn't one of them.
>>
>>80255420
>If I were the captain I'd chalk her account up to PTSD
Well you're clearly an idiot so who cares what you'd do. The idea that they're going to be able to cover up and ignore the only survivor on the ground, and the one who called in and started the fight btw, is ludicrous. Especially when you're then going to prop her up infront of the Earthers to lie lmao. This Captains behavior makes no sense and I bet 'Nice Chaplain Man' will believe her and help her whilst 'Evil Authority Man' tries to stop her telling the truth.

I just reread the encounter part. There was jamming. You're probably right about them digging deeper into the suit data, though. I don't remember that very well, but it does strike a chord.
>>
>>80255715
>is given rationalization and therefore by definition is not a plot hole

There are so many possible explanations that I find it hard to believe you can't think up one unless you were trying to hate the episode.

Are you a bookfag? That might explain it.

nobody knows about the protomeme or the ayys

Mars knows something fucky was going on phoebe, but they blew it up before getting any further into their investigation.

Earth knows protogen is somehow linked to the cant/donnager/eros but they don't actually know how they're connected

Only Fred, drummer, the OPA goons that assaulted the station, the Roci crew, Errinwright and Mao know the truth and they're not telling everyone about it.

In the books there is a year gap between RIP miller and ganymede and everyone knows about ayys and the protomeme by the time ganymede
>>
>>80257705
How does everyone know about it? Do holden and crew reveal what happened or what?
>>
>>80258354
its been a while since i read the first book but IIRC Fred announces it all
>>
I wonder why Ganymede of all places is the outer planet breadbasket.
>>
>>80258374
How does the public react? Does everyone go apeshit?
>>
>>80258423
honestly the book doesn't really go into much detail about the public reaction. Book 1 ends after the announcement, and Book 2 starts 1 year after the announcement.

All we're told is that protogen got immediately #rekt by the UN, but mao and Errinwright are not implicated yet

Mars vaporises phoebe, as in actually vaporises it, no debris

My impression was that the public didn't really go nuts, i mean if you turned on the TV and it said ayyliens exist (but they're not actually here) you still need to go and wagecuck tomorrow.
