>>80220564
I think he's lying.
Fisher account
So how's the Ransom account going, Marcus?
>>80220586
Nice one trump
>>80220757
Most big companys have a lot of vice presidents. It's basically just a title that means you make a shit ton of money.
>>80220757
It's not a joke, it's one of the main plot points/ themes of the book/film.
All wear the same brands of suits in the same color palette.
Similar hair style
All are weirdly perfect looking
They all went to harvard expect a few who did the whole yale thing
they are all vice presidents and all work on similar 'accounts'
same biz card
all drink scotch or vodka on the rocks
they all do drugs
eat at the same rotation of restaurants and party at the same bars and clubs
all have appartments in the same part of town
They all fucking get confused for one another. No one really knows who's who outside their imediate circle.
And in Patrick's circle, paul has slightly better everything and it drives everyone fucking mad.
>>80220586
How did a nitwit like you get so tasteful? And Bateman--check 'em
>>80221362
Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness of it. Oh my God, it even has a watermark!

I still don't understand this movie. Did he really do all that shit? What happened to the apartment with all the bodies in it (I think it was Paul's)? People just cleaned it out for him for no reason? Did no one care about the murders? The killing spree that started at the ATM?
>>80227283
brainlet
>>80220586
>they all have the same phone number
>>80221565
>>80227283
Did the ATM really tell him to feed it a stray cat? No. Because he's completely delusional.
>>80227283
Some of it happened, some of it didn't. The point is that it doesn't matter
>>80227505
>Did the ATM really tell him to feed it a stray cat?

>>80227800
>>80227833
duuuuuuude
>>80227873
The point is that Bateman has lost his mind and is capable of doing those things.
Whether he did them all or not is irrelevant, he's still insane.
At that point he could have killed 5 or 50 people. The film shows that he has descended so far into madness that he's not even aware of his murders anymore.
>>80227938
So you never know what's real and what's not throughout the whole movie?
Well that is thoroughly unsatisfying. What really even happened to Paul Allen then?
>>80227873
He didn't kill anyone, he was just insane and would have vivid hallucinatory episodes of slaughter.
>>80228069
They frequently make the point in the film that everyone looks the same and Bateman even gets mistaken for somebody else.
It's likely that either
>The axe murder was all in Bateman's head and he just broke into Paul's apartment while he was away
or
>Bateman did kill somebody with the axe but it wasn't Allen
>>80228143
I thought that it was that all these New York Yuppie types were psychopaths
>>80228185
More like sociopaths. Bateman was a full blown psychopath
ey
>>80228185
Well yeah that too, the book and film are a statement about disconnected yuppies but as >>80228212 said, Bateman is an actual psychopatch whereas the others are sociopaths/narcissists.
What if the vice presidents all being clones was a multiple personality thing? They are all the same person. He thinks he is murdering people but these people don't exist except in his head.
>>80222222
>>80228069
It's either he was hallucinating or he actually did murder them and got away with it... because who would expect a guy like him to murder someone? Watch it again and notice the little details like the doormen not caring when he drags the body out, or the doormen confusing names. They all look the same. They all go to the same places, fuck the same women, eat at the same restaurants. If he did really murder those people it would be extremely difficult to catch the guy because even the "victims" confuse the names themselves. (like the rich chick who confuses him name when she's calling the dealer)
The scene in the apartment when the bodies have been moved and the place has been repainted likely refers to real estate agents doing literally anything to make money. They'll ignore murder providing they can profit from it.
So yeah, he either:
>Did all of those things and got away with it because no one would expect him to be a murderer.
>Hallucinated and instead just fantasised in his journal that he kept in the desk.
>>80228069
>>80228397
Also, they're all so superficial that none of them even care or realise. Like when Carruthers sees him putting the body in the boot of the taxi, he looks surprised, any normal person may have been suspicious of what was inside the bag, but he didn't care... all he wanted to know was what brand it was
>>80228071
If he didn't kill anyone at all then what was Willem Dafoe doing investigating Paul's disappearance? Why did Dafoe's character never bother to check Paul's apartment?
>>80220586
Ha, bone is for boneheads.
>>80228585
That entire sequence with Dafoe was a figment of his imagination

what did he mean by this
>>80234745
I can understand why because some chapters were god awful to sit through, but that's kinda the point. I skipped a few of Bateman's musical rants because I simply didn't care about the artist he talked about and it bored me.
The one that sticks out the most is the chapter where they all are on the phone with each other and keep trying to figure out where to eat. They go so far as to let their girlfriends go to some resturaunt when they haven't even left and decided not to go to that one. It's lasts pages and pages and was nothing but them arguing over this and constantly switching lines to talk to someone else about it. It was unbareable but thats what those characters are like. They're boring sacks of shit who don't do anything productive because of their wealth. The biggest point of the novel is how lifeless and awful yuppies and that life style is.
Unless you mean the gore parts than you're just a pussy.
>>80234745
The only good thing about the movie IMO is Christian Bale'a performance. I've heard that the book is even more grotesque than the movie and that it is meandering. I probably won't ever read it
>>80241354
Bale's*
>>80238395
The film implies that Patrick Bateman is not in fact Patrick Bateman, but some guy who murdered Bateman took his place.

>>80234745
Its the only book to have actually made laugh multiple times throughout, the dark humor in it is fantastic as Bateman slowly goes insane and no one around him gives a shit. He literally pulls a knife out on Luis , the guy who has a crush at him, and hisses at him and shit and gets away with it.
>>80227283
He killed some people and had psychotic delusions he'd killed some others (see: him shooting a police car with a pistol and it explodes)
The point of the film/book is that 1980s upper class culture was such a vicious depersonalising masturbatory shitfest of conformity and self-centred vapidity that a fucking nutter like Patrick Bateman could go on a killing spree and nobody would notice because every person is the same (everybody keeps getting everyone's name wrong) and nobody knows who anyone really is, and even if they did realise they'd be too wrapped up in their own lives to care, so if Bateman did have a closet full of dead hookers is Paul Allens apartment (assuming the person he killed was even Paul in the first place) the woman selling it would rather have cleaned it up to get the sale on such an expensive apartment and pretend it never happened rather than have it be cordoned off by police as a crime scene for months and become almost unsellable after

So many great moments like that. The part where he makes his ex bethany read the poem about the nigger on the wall. And where he gets the urge to kill some Japanese after talking to some guy, and he kills an Asian delivery guy who turns out to be the wrong type of Asian. then he writes on the receipt Im coming for you bitch to the woman the order was going to.

Both correct. My two cents:
I worked at a company that had a sort of... "commission based friendship" among higher ups. Instead of hiring sales people, the CEO would hire these people who were also CEO of their own smaller businesses. They were sales people, but had some sort of DIY sales program or software. Each would earn the title Vice President, and fluff their emails / credentials up with all their micro-companies they owned.
Not real companies; just systems. The main CEO would take stake in their company and offer them commission on all the business they brought to the master company. If they under performed, their brand and customers would get absorbed.
Also, none of these people were particularly skilled at anything beyond charisma. When I explained this to my non VP colleagues, we all stopped working so hard.

Oh yeah. Another example, one of the VP sales guys could never enter in his contacts/leads correctly into Sales Force. The Marketing Director got so sick of trying to run numbers with that VP's input that they dictated one of the CR flunkies to handle all data input for him.
Aka, he got a free part-time assistant for his charisma stat dump. Couldn't be bothered figure out his free (company issued) new iPhone X. Meanwhile, at his "start-up", it was him and some coding guy. The coding guy did most of the work and was also CEO of his own proprietary software he sold to the parent company mentioned above. He received not only a cut on total revenue from parent company, but also a cut from VP-Sales-Genius's company.
Essentially, two cuts.
