>MEN MUST BE GOVERNED.

What did he mean by this?
>>
Most people are stupid. Anyone below like 95% on the bell curve is pretty dense really. Humanity is a mass of idiots.

Pretty accurate for the time.

That officer trying to get friendly with the midshipmen was just asking for trouble.

Hard to believe he never learn early on how unprofessional that would be. Makes me think he was a really sheltered admiral's son. Or a time traveler.
>>
>>80186637
hierarchies are natural and preferred for a reason. People are in general stupid and followers of anyone who sounds like they have a solution and can maintain this power via force.
>>
>>80186637
Fuck man, I just watched this movie a few months ago. Loved it. Shame it didn't become a series.
>>
>>80186637
meant the same as every other educated british and american man of that time when they said it
>>
>>80187401

I saw it in theaters when I was a kid and loved it. Bought the DVD which I watch at least once a year. A true kino if there every was one.

He's literally fighting the French.

As in, the French Revolution.

As in, when there was no order and France went to shit.

That is his enemy and has been for years.

So he would kind of construct a worldview whereby he fights against ungoverned men for some sort of cause.

And that cause is men must be governed.

inb4 he was fighting an American ship in the books. No one cares

>when I was a kid
Time for me to get off this board for a bit.

2003 was 14 years ago bud. I was 12 when it released. I've been allowed to post here for nearly a decade. You feeling old yet?
>>

>inb4 he was fighting an American ship in the books
I thought I read somewhere that the movie was based on two different master and commander books.
>>
>>80186967
>midshipmen
the officer was a midshipman. The guy who insulted him was a sailor.

>>80188257
It's just a new storyline in the book universe with a title reused in which he also goes to American waters.

With such a good setting there's nothing wrong with making new storylines.
>>
>>80188139
I was 13 at the time and I still ocassionally forget that so much time has passed and jump to the conclusion that the poster might be underage. I feel so old :/
>>
advocating fascism
>>
>>80189754
I was 4 at the time.

>Women will NEVER be capable of appreciating this movie.

Anything dealing with leadership and acts of selflessness is literally beyond their comprehension.
>>
>>80189835
I love how patrician this board is. I feel at home.
>>
>>80189802
LOL. Now you made me feel really old.

They too needed governance.

This is one of the only movies I consider to be near perfect.
>>
>>80186637
Is there any point in watching this film when it was supposed to be a trilogy?
>>
>>80186637
It means being governed is the lesser of two weevils.
>>
>>80191956
i wouldn't wait very much longer
>>
>>80192688
What?
>>
>>80192704
the other two installments aren't coming

that's okay, this movie stands on it's own
>>
>Russell Crowe learned to play violin for the film and referred to it as the hardest thing he'd ever done for a film.

Impressive
>>
>>80192789
And women can't even lose a few pounds for a role. All that money wasted on CGI to make them look slimmer
>>
>>80186637
This film fucking sucks, and if you like it, you should feel bad.
>>
>>80186637

Jack is governance in a totalitarian way.
Steven is advocating a more free will renaissance kind of way.

Read the novels their dialogue is excellent as both have their pros and cons and yet both characters are bound through a deep friendship.
>>
>>80191827
Ironically they had better governance than Britain
