I watched 6 years ago. Maybe it's the kind of film that loses impact as you age as a person. I hope not, but could be, seeing it's such wild youth film.
But it was special at the time.

So which is better /lbg/? Dispassionate order or shambolic chaos?

The yin and the yang of /lbg/.
>>
>>80188561
That's not a even a worthy question.
That OP is a smug walltext shitpost developed by an autist to growing horrors time after time he managed to make a new one.
The other, like this one, is what /lbg/'s OPs have always been, to perfectly fine use for years in their simplicity.
Not a hard choice.
No audience should be given to these sporadic attacks on the general. If you see one thread like that and it's the only one available, make another and report the shitpost.
>>
>>80188988
My question wasn't specifically just about the OP, but the threads in general. The other thread is definitely terrible, but it's hard to say this thread was enjoyable either. There's hardly any discussion happening.
>>
What are /lbg/s views on Andy Milligan?
>>
>>80189220
True, but that's a more ancient problem. And it's like the weather, there are days when people suddenly talk more. More cinematic interested folks appear and some nice conversations happen.
But this is general that's up all the time, so it's saturated in a strong way. Memes and more memes become the easiest manner to participate to most.
>>
>>80189257
Hadn't even heard of him until today t.b.h

>he died in abject poverty in 1991 from AIDS and was buried in an unmarked pauper's grave in Los Angeles, California
Damn
>>
>>80189220
The other one had twice as many posts and four times as many posters. This one was just one cry baby posting random profiles.
>>
>>80189590
I suppose you're him. What it actually did have was samefagging conversations and dumb memes and pastas 'replied', to create the impression of presence or activity. That, of course, after another horrorshow with the OP.
So, get fucked.
>>
>>80189774
Why are you so angry at me? I don't make the OPs I just think they're useful because they offer more than same exact thing every day for 6 years. Some people want to make an effort at making this place better. You're an intriguing little fella but you don't make any sense.
>>
>>80190619
On the alleged case you're not him, you're someone defending those terrible OPs, pure and simple shitposts, so you would be almost as bad.
They aren't in any imaginable way making this place better, just worse, with the first post being a shitfest in each occasion the same autist did them.
>>
>>80190738
Stop typing like this! You sound like a robot!
>>
>>80190825
I don't see the case. Or what would be the 'like this' you try to point out.

>>80190936
I haven't seen it but I read enough of the synopsis to know it doesn't seem at all that interesting. It doesn't seem like an internet version of SJW, just seems more like Green party hippie luddite. Why did you want to watch it in the first place?

It's just stupid saying this is unfair onascar. And in some way it's just stupid compare two actors so different, act in 2 different native linguage. To understand Roberto as actor you HAVE to be italian or speak italian fucking well. Roberto is a man, who got the best TVshare just reading the divine commedy, an 700 years old book of poems that everybody studied at school for years. Reading it on TV sounds like the most boring thing in the world, but when roberto does he gets the best tv share. This just thanks to his way to speak italian, his art to talk (and the sub does not help you to understand his art). So how can you judje him? How can you undastand a fuck about his art and say "Norton is better"? You just know nothing, trust me.

>This is one of my favourite films – very glad you share my enthusiasm for it. The refinement of old expressionistic stylings, visual language, and sound design are absolutely flawless; it's masterfully fused and rhythmic in a way I can only describe as Felliniesque. Does it bother anyone else that phrases like "This flight and this drama are revealed in this philosophical film-poem." are so broadly thrown around when concerning art film? Like the phrase "tone poem" really chaps my ass. Makes me think that the people that keep saying these lines have never glanced at poetry or philosophy and cheapen both just so they can have inflated buzzwords. Maybe it's autism, but I find it horribly pretentious and the mark of not knowing how to express something without these big sexy words.

Guys, I'm crying right now.

Just looking at her picture makes me feel something strange inside. I guess you could call it "love". I'm in love with Amaranth. I've lost interest in all girls, besides her. Girls who are considered "hot" by the general male population don't cut it for me anymore.

Amaranth really is all I think about all day, every day. I really do cry myself to sleep at night thinking about how I'll never be with her. If only she knew I existed in this life, if only she knew my deep profound love for her. I know that will never happen though. That is the thought that makes me so sad when I look at her. I'll never be with her, but I'll continue to love her until the day I die.

The aesthetic of Kaurismäki's films is beautiful, can't wait to see Toivon tuolla puolen in the cinema.

I loved the striking theatrical acting in Ivan the terrible. Every slight or grand movement fits and is perfectly coordinated and performed.

>4Chan Is Talking About Us

>You probably don't care if they are, anyway. I don't. I think it's bloody hilarious. There's an entire community on 4chan devoted to slagging this site off. How do you feel about this?

>For an online magazine I contribute to I wrote an article about it.

>I have posted it below:

>Isn’t it amazing, the stuff you can find on the internet? Never in a library could you find tracks of obscure artists from the 1950′s to immediately listen to, silent films from the 1910′s to be displayed instantly, or intimate showcases of bestiality deftly tucked under the Internet’s no-no rug designated solely for creeps and curious teenagers.

>It is then, with great astonishment and delight, that my friend discovered a congregation of sniggering proles assembling in the far, vile corners of 4chan like a group of conniving intergalactic pond scum talking about yours truly, me.

>A little background knowledge then, so you understand their near unintelligible ramblings, I’m on the website Letterboxd, under the alias Peterpib2, pretty much just a Twitter for film without character restrictions on your posts.
>>
>>80210047
>not already following the Pasta
>>

>>80210347
>In other words, better. You can post reviews of films, yadayada, and there’s a great little community that’s a sort of digital update of the kind of parochial town in Midsomer Murders. Everyone knows each other and the people are really friendly.

>Unlike, say, 4chan, the single most heinous collection of reprehensible dross on the net. That’s not meaningless speculation, just go on the site and you’ll have enough evidence to agree. I mean, they do churn out the occasional popular meme, but that’s 0.0005% of the site’s user base.

>Anyway, I digress. I was in school when my friend alerted me that people on 4chan were talking about me. Rather disturbingly, their archives were left unblocked on their computers, despite far more harmless sites having their access denied for more asinine reasons, such as a blog about frogs with the reason “criminal skill”.

>But I was astounded to see the lengths people would delve into your life on the web to make fun of you, especially when anonymous. I guess it’s the equivalent of a celebrity’s private life being discussed by the bovine dolts who religiously watch TMZ, but I’m not in the slightest bit notable.

>Why me? Well, on 4chan, nobody is free from ridicule. Nobody. Somewhere, someone on the Internet is talking about you. Watching you. Spying on you. Joking about your every endeavour. (This is where I would make an NSA joke, but that’s too 2013 for a hip dog like me.)

>I think it’s completely genius, don’t get me wrong. It’s the only place in the world you can truly say whatever you want without fear of reprimands.

>Peterpib confirmed for major pleb” claims anonymous, sounding like a drunk George Alagiah in a pub brawl. An other 4channer comments on my bio, particularly laughing at the fact I called myself a lad. Obviously, he’s never met me, cos I’m such a lad I’d knock his lights out easy. (For all intents and purposes, that was sarcasm, in all likelihood I’d probably get knocked out and beg mercy to a three legged chihuahua.)

>What’s especially revealing about the character of these people, is that they called me that after reading one of my reviews, finding out the trivial fact that I rated the frankly brilliant Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford four stars, while saying “there’s a five star film in here somewhere, but I just didn’t connect with James as much as I should have. A rewatch is in order.” Personally, I don’t see the problem with the completely rational concept that you can think a film has more potential on a rewatch than on a first watch. But, oh well. I might as well be reasoning with a pebble.

>“COULD THIS BE THE NEW DRIVER” says one of 4chan’s many expert bollocksmiths. An explanation is needed here, Driver is a dude on the site. People for some reason, at least on 4chan, think he’s a gormless idiot who’s got the cinematic taste of a caveman, though their preconceptions are completely wrong. He just has a different opinion from them. And that’s clearly the same for myself.

>“He gave Le Samurai 3 1/2. Yeah, possibly.” I don’t care what anyone says, Refn’s Drive was Le Samurai upgraded. There was chemistry in the silence between Carey Mulligan and Ryan Gosling, but with Alain Delon, who starred in the latter, his silence wasn’t intriguing at all. But you know what, at the end of the day, it is just a different opinion.

>They didn’t stop at me, though, they moved on to my best friend, James Haves, also on Letterboxd, and a regular contributor right here on YUOnline. “That Film Brat (James Haves) has met the director of Mean Girls. What have you done?” One wannabe pundit mentions. He’s got a point. James did meet the director of Mean Girls. And that’s probably more notable than anything those deadbeats have ever done, perhaps with the exception of “my first haircut”, or “joined E-Harmony”.

>But they go on. “I stole his lunch money every day for 6 years”. And in reply someone says “well, you must be one of those people who was bullying him in school. Well, guess what! He’s attending an online school now! TAKE THAT, BULLY! I’m not joking.” True that, true that. James does indeed go to an online school, you weren’t joking. What next, then? What? Nothing? Yup, they just end the conversation there and discard it like a moldy loaf of bread. I suppose James just isn’t as interesting as me, because after that, they come right back to me. Someone mysteriously got hold of one of my old Youtube videos and posted it.

>Not only was this great promotion, admittedly not to the right audience, no publicity is bad publicity. And you know what? Driver thought that video was entertaining. So nyah-nyah.

>“his moms in it” cleverly observes one intelligent, grammatical genius. “#SWAG”, comments an ironic contributor to this clearly life altering thread, what a bundle of laughs he is! “TOP LAD”, as one wisely points out. Both funny, and true. “DOGGIE TO THE RESCUE” another posts with a photo of my dog running. “this video is just making me sad for him” declares an other participant. They then ignored the subject of my videos, and went on to talk about such integral manners to the country as the degrading fiscal state of the economy. Just joking. They went on to talk about boobs. Probably.

read professional reviews, try to recognise a generalised structure and work from that until you formulate your own style

Synt is a normal user, never was anyone special. It's just that in this new-new-new-/lbg/ a normal user suddenly is above the average.
Actually, even more golden days were shit, as anyone can see by the retard archiveposting.

Anyone else still sad about Robert Osborne's passing? He seemed liked a cool guy to have a glass of wine with and browse his movie collection.

Yeah I enjoyed watching him talk about movies with Sally Field, he was so sincere and genuine about sharing his film knowledge. I just skip through Ben Mankiewicz nowadays.

Oh, yeah. A beauty in itself. Even more a real VHS tape.
Sure, there's some nostalgia involved, but that level of fucked up image( many times even the aspect ratio) had its trash charm

It seemed acceptable when there was no other alternative (how many people had a laserdisc player?), but now with DVD and BD it feels so primitive by comparison.
