Most of /tv/ didn't shell out for the 3D because they thought it was your typical "shit comes off the screen" when it wasn't; the actual experience was like watching something through a window because every scene had that depth to it since the entire film was shot in 3D.

Seeing this movie in theaters was legitimately my favorite film experience because I saw it in 3D. Watching it at home without the 3D doesn't even come anywhere close.

I think it's great! Not a perfect movie, it's pretty formulaic but I think the execution was so fresh and slick that it was a completely worthwhile experience. The backlash from reddit-tier "no cultural impact" critics is so hackneyed at this point. No, the story isn't original, but pointing that out doesn't make you smart or clever. The Last Samurai, Dances with Wolves and Pocahontas are all great movies with the same plot.

Avatar the highest grossing film in the world, by a very significant margin. That's not an accident. The visuals and the world of the film were so fresh and exciting that it was a real experience to go see. And while not particularly memorable or fantastic, the characters and story were good enough to carry us through that world.

I'm very very excited to see what Cameron does with the sequels.

>>
has cameron even made a worse movie?
>>
>>80154805

My thoughts about this movie exactly.
The plot is definitely not groundbreakinh, a classic clear good vs evil story, but this is executed so well, the humans are such complete assholes that you cannot help but root for the natives so it feels REALLY good when they are finally getting their comeuppance and the technically seemingly absolutely without a chance tribe starts winning.
Also the avatar technology is damn cool creating a nice discrepancy between the agile strong avatar body and the crippled weak human body of our protagonist and the romance plot amazingly does not feel shoehorned in because it shows at the end that Neytiri is not loving him for how he looks but how he IS, as she risks a lot then just to save this disabled insignificant tiny human.

It's just a good movie, the 3D is a gimmick and not really important for enjoyment at all, but I must say that I was astonished when seeing it in cinema back then.
>>
>>80159202
>she risks a lot then just to save this disabled insignificant tiny human.

>>
>>80155051
Yeah, I absolutely loved Titanic and always thought not liking it was a contrarian meme.

I'll watch Avatar sometime soon. I'd watch it in 3d but that shit gives me hardcore motion sickness.
>>
>>80159256

The scene is done amazingly which you can see by the fact that it's a typical "the bomb is defused at the last second" scene that STILL manages to keep tension.
Everyone in the audience pretty much knows that he will be saved at the last second, yet it still manages to keep tense until the end, the toxic atmosphere entering the container- that on the other hand means he won't be able to control his avatar long anymore so he struggles between crawling to the life saving oxygen and staying put in the "coffin" until the last second, then cannot reach the mask in time, and THEN she comes in, quickly realises that he need his gas mask and saves him, which at the ame time leads to her holding him in her arms and the size difference becoming apparent.
It's just masterfully done.

IN theory I'd have no problem visiting Pandora again, but the problem is what should the plot be? "The humans come back- this tiime it's personal"? That would just be a literal repeat of the first one. Another force threatening the world? thats still the first one with humans replaced by something else. Other aliens as new threat? That REALLY would stretch the suspension of disbelief, the first one was so immersive because it was in itself with very advanced technlogy believable as humans were involved, another alien race would be shoehorned in... Every potential sequel speaks disaster...

I... I do have pleb eyes :(

I don't get headaches, but I might as well. It feels weird wearing them because I have to put them on over my regular glasses; it dulls the screen; and it's just never really done anything for me. I don't get how you can do 3D "right" because I don't think it even belongs in movies.

Oh, and wearing contacts doesn't really help.

Yeah, I can see it, but not enough to care. The red-and-blue glasses from a decade ago worked a lot better. I know it's supposed to be more subtle now, but it does so little for me it might as well not be there.
