Holy shit.

I mean I know it is just a video game movie and the last in a long line of terrible films but still.

Holy shit. That was a C movie script with B movie CGI and independent porn agency level acting.

Who was this movie made for? Why was it even made? It was just so bad. It didn't even appeal to the fans by making it cheesy but familiar. Everything was rushed and forced and the fights were like watching an epileptic fuck a strobe light.

Why in the hell did they make this film?
>>
>>80153713
Money
>>
>>80153733
but WHERE?

Who in the fuck would pay them for this? I am a die hard RE fan. I would not even throw money at this in the thin hopes they'd make another.
>>
>>80153713
What to see her to bondage, tbqh
>>
>>80153752

They weren't looking for the diehard RE fans.
>>
>>80153713

This latest RE movi already brought in over $250 million at the box office in 5 weeks on a budget of $40 million.

That return on investment is many times greater than a high risk film like batman vs superman.

In theory it is in a studios best interests to keep making movies like resident evil, underworld, and snow white and the huntsman sequels (you can make 5 of them for the price of a major WB cape film).
>>
They had the rights for one last cash grab. Now the whole team that made this shit show is moving on to monster hunter. Please look forward to 10 years of a brand new train wreck. There is some interview out there where the director reveals he doesn't know anything beyond the 4u intro mission.
>>
>>80153944
>$250 million
I am fucking beside myself. How that steaming wet runny pile of shit generated this much money shakes me to the core. I am not a movie snob by any means. I love tremors and all its campy goodness but that film. It made me angry that so many people worked on it and said "yup that is good to go".

I must be out of touch. I just don't see how it made a profit.
>>
>>80154076
Don't forget the people who were killed during filming.
>>
>>80153752
>Who in the fuck would pay them for this?

One word: Subhuman chinks.
>>
>>80154098
People died for that franchise? I weep for them.

I know that one stunt girl lost an arm but to have your life cut short to make that horseshit? It is a horrible way to go. How many did it claim?
>>
>>80154124

China was only 94 million of the 250 mil it brought in. It was the biggest market but not the only market.
>>
>>80154159
>It was the biggest market

You answered your own question then.
>>
>>80154159
Europoors like it

t. watched this shit growing up in Europoor

it's Armond approved kino tho so you're plebs
>>
>>80154098
>Don't forget the people who were killed during filming.

You mean subcontractor of a subcontractor who was killed in an accident while transporting a hummer?
>>
>>80154197

If China never existed it would have still made several times it's budget in the first 3 weeks.

China throwing money at it just makes it go from "great success" to "fuckhuge success".
>>
>>80154076
I'm gonna watch it again just to piss you off
>>
>>80153713

You've answered your own question TWICE now.

Monetary success is different to critical success.

This and every RE movie has flopped in the critical market, but still made enough dosh they felt it okay to pump a few million more into a sequel.

cannot believe some people gave their lives for this shit

what the fuck
>>
It's fine. the whole franchise is fine, it's fairly good for what it is, just like Underworld. It's not aiming for an Oscar or Palme d'Or. Just a cheap little fun action/horror movie. Chill, kids.
>>
They made it for me. I love this stupid franchise. Good dumb fun all around. I love how each entry manages to fuck up in completely different time. Like this one just shits all over the other movies in such a great way (Wesker gets crushed by a DOOR!)
As an added bonus I got to listen to RE fanboys cry for 17 years about how it's not like the videya games. Haha never even played one of them.
>>
>>80154298
>Monetary success is different to critical success.

Money is all that matters though.

A few actors and directors who made it big can make their art films that play in 27 theaters worldwide. If they really want respect as actors or writers they will go to broadway or even more obscure theater.

Films exist for $$$ and no other reason. Money in vs money out. That is the only thing that matters in the entire industry and that is their only measure of success.
>>
>>80154354
Underworld is dogshit compared to Resident Evil.
>>
>>80153713
>Who was this movie made for?
it was made for Paul Anderson and Milla Jovovich

how the studio gave them money to make a film that is purely for their own amusement is a completely different mystery, maybe it's a Producers-style scam?
>>
>>80154298
WRONG, I succinctly remember Armond giving one of the Resident Evil movies a good review therefore it's a critical success, because he's the only one that matters.
>>
>>80154437
Nah. Armond is just /tv/s fave meme behind calling everything reddit.
>>
>>80154419
Still fine for what it is.
>>
>>80154354
But the RE movies aren't even GOOD in any respect of the word and I'm a fan of the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises where they made at least a few decent and even GOOD movies.

These RE flicks are fuck awful in every respect. I can't even be bothered owning them.
>>
>>80153713
Literally the only cool thing was making people sprint for their lives uselessly behind the big car things. That reveal with the horde was rad. Terrifying way to go out when you think about it. Best bet is trying to climb the car and get shot in the head

Afterlife and Retribution were really good despite being horribly written. This one unfortunately is just a lot of "meh." But it has it's gold.
>>
Im still mad that they didnt have a fucking Birkin monster.

One of the greatest monster designs ever created, I seriously hope he gets some love in RE2make, imagine that kickass design in full hd glory.
>>
>>80154425
Anderson said in an interview it was made for the people who heard about the videogames but never played them.
>>
>>80153713
I love how Milla bragged in an interview that when the movie had to be pushed for a year due to her pregnancy, her husband took the extra time to really work on the script and make it just right.

I highly doubt everybody who went to see it thought it was great or thought it would be, but maybe people just wanted something to watch on a saturday night or something?
>>
>>80156280
Why is it so hard to believe this series had an extremely dedicated fanbase with people that loved these movies?

Every single movie was a massive success. It's just weird to me, here we have capeshit and transformers making billions, but when it comes to RE it's suddenly weird it's successful, when it always has been, was successful before the capeshit and ended on a high note.

I was in Asia while this was in cinemas. Went to a lat-night showing a few weeks after it had been released thinking I would pretty much have the screen to myself.

The place was rammed, literally only the front row was available. Couldn't fucking believe it.
>>
>>80156203
RE made more money in China than Rogue One did.
>>
the fuck is wrong with soulless chinks
>>
>>80156587
Hot white girl with guns killing monsters and muties. Not exactly rocket science to figure out the appeal.
>>
>>80153752

If you were a diehard RE fan, you'd have already seen all the movies and understood this shit is par the course. Actually, better than the average RE movie.
>>
>>80155291
Fun fact: Dr. Isaacs was named after the actor Jason Isaacs, who was supposed to play Birkin, and appeared briefly at the end of the first one.
>>
>>80153713

In fairness OP, it has been a very long time since these movies were anything approaching watchable.

I remember watching the first one, and the concept of being stuck underground with zombies was a neat one, but after that it's all pretty much all down hill.

I'm going to download them all and marathon them one of these days though, if just to laugh at their poor casting choice with Leon.
>>
The best direction I've ever read about Paul W.S. Anderson is that like a modern-day Roger Corman, except he managed to keep himself relevant, instead of floundering into straight-to-VHS/DVD/Bluray/VOD hell.
>>

Dumbasses
>>
>>80156641
it appealed to americans too when everyone wasn't trying to be a """""critic""""". If this franchise was released 30 years ago it would be considered a "classic" and "one of the greatest franchises of all time" today.
>>
>>80154289
It's almost like stunts have inherent risk
>>
I've seen every one of these in 3D. They're awful and Anderson is an idiot, but whatever. I'm amazed that he finds new ways to fuck up with every iteration. He's like an unintentional John Waters or something.

>>
>>80156992
Seriously, that shit confused me. Didn't help that they brought back Dr. Isaacs only to turn him into Wesker-lite anyway. It's like double redundancy for the sake of bringing back an old actor/character.
>>
>>80153713
These films are perhaps the most profitable films being made. They regularly make 3-5 times their budget. I am actually surprised they stopped making them.
