The second one is probably the best book in the series. Its ending is what makes it though. Three and five are also stand outs, for me.

The first one was Erikson finding his footing as a novelist, two and three were where he really figured out the formula that he wrote well. By four, the formula was starting to get old for me and it just wasn't that compelling. Five is another high point though, because it changes perspective to an entirely new cast, some of whom are better than the best characters from the original cast. The rest of the books are consistent but unexciting clashes between all the characters.
