Well Negan has killed about 25% of their group already, including two of their most important people. And in real life, if they tried to rise up against Negan's group, they would be squashed like pissants and Negan would wipe the entire group off the earth without even breaking a sweat.

But in character plot armor TWD world, somehow Rick's group of ~10 capable fighters has a chance against Negan's 50+ well armed soldiers that also control a very defensible military compound.

I think any person in real life would have taken their chances on the road after Glenn and Abraham's deaths, since Negan was by far the most overwhelming threat they've found so far. They are likely to come across another threat, that is correct, but Negan's control of the area and overall power should have been unbeatable and they would have had a better chance beating a smaller group far away.
