What went wrong?
>>
>>80122446
They made it into a trilogy.
>>
>>80122458
Would it have worked as 2 movies though?
>>
>3 films
>rushed production
>Go Pro footage
>terrible CGI up the ass
>even the orcs were CGI
>>
>>80122446
Lord of the Rings was done because they loved it, Hobbit was done because suits wanted it.
>>
>>80122482
Yes.

End the movie at the gollum scene, start the second at the spider forest.
>>
>>80122446
It has been pretty well documented what went wrong, anon. Just google it.
>>
Just make it a movie or 2

Why the fuck people eat these shits up
>>
The same curse as the Star Wars prequels. Because of the success of the first films, the director gets too big for his boots rather than respecting the source material because 'what could go wrong', was probably surrounded by Yes-men and probably financed by media companies to incorporate their newest stupid technology and pushed by the studio to make a cash-cow.
>>
Pretty sure they needed more time at the end of producing the the 2nd movie so they made it 3.

Don't blame the production company or Jackson who was making the best of a bad situation. it was clearly being rushed out by execs so they could keep their jobs.
>>
>>80122524
That'd skip Beorn and the Eagles though, I believe when it was 2 films it was going to end after the barrel part.

Would've been a clusterfucked film when you think about it

>>80122578
Whilst it's easy as fuck to blame Jackson and put him on the same level as Lucas, the problem goes back to Warner Bros.

The only franchise they have left that they haven't entirely fucked up is Harry Potter, and that's cause they don't want to piss off Rowling
>>
>>80122769
It wasn't Warner Brothers that came up with the idea of filming in 48FPS.
>>
>>80122446
Shitty filler scenes to justify a trilogy
too much CGI
>>
>>80122810
It was WB that fucked up the entire film production though.

Who knows why Jackson wanted 48 FPS, maybe something to keep Weta in the front line for the next couple of years.
>>
>>80122769
The barrel part was stupid, it could've just been a neat way to escape the elves and transition to laketown but they had to go too fat and have the fat fuck dwarf stick his arms out and kill everyone.
>>
>>80122853
Know this is a retarded thing to say, but it's much better in the book. It's just them in barrels no floating elves bs. Could've been a nice ending point for the first film if they stuck with that
>>
>>80122446
Everything. Anyone that excuses Jackson for these films is an idiot. A lack of prep time is not an excuse for filling the movies with various cancers like 48 FPS, 'bloom' effects, terrible pointless characters, endless CGI.
>>
>>80122853
And then Fili had to be shot by a morgul arrow so we can have a aye kings foil tis a weed scene.
>>
>>80122897
Lack of prep time does excuse the endless CGI
>>
>>80122931
Fuck don't remind me
>>
>>80122446
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQkygZdZ_Vk&ab_channel=Joshalots
>>
>>80122446

The official excuse is that Jackson had to abruptly take over after Del'taco left and didn't get enough time to prepare before filming and in the middle of it all he were told to stretch everything into a trilogy instead of 2 parter.
>>
>>80122973
No. This shit was beginning to happen in RotK. With King Kong he went full CGI. The Hobbit was just a continuation of that.
>>
>>80122446
> Del Toro left
> The Hobbit trilogy got fucked
> Tintin sequel will now never get made
>>
>>80123147
Part of why Del Toro left is he couldn't manage with the time available and Del Toro does a lot of prosthetics work. Jackson worked very fast with LoTR but only because he'd had time to plan it out and they literally booked weta and half of new zealand to work on the films for 4 years. Jackson had none of that time and a half developed plot, I suspect characters like Azog and the goblin King were Del Toro designs.
>>
>>80123271
>I suspect characters like Azog and the goblin King were Del Toro designs.

Wow, that would've been interesting..
>>
Is nobody going to mention the love triangle? Wtf was that...
>>
>>80123346

I really don't want to think about it.
>>
Someone post the webm
you know the one
>>
>>80123303
yeah in the pre-production blogs and some pre-jackson leaks Azog appeared to have been a Del Toro concept, can imagine the trolls and goblins were also. Jackson actually had the least time for the first film and it was teh only one that had detailed concepts from Toros pre production.

Jackson spend years developing LOTR. For The Hobbit he had to step in at the last minute and had no idea what to do, so it turned to be a huge mess.

They could have done the 4 hour extended edition like LOTR it wouldn't have been that hard

It's hard to watch him trying to take this seriously. Do you ever watch movies and become overwhelmed with pity for the whores that sold their likeness to these shambles?

>>
>>80122578
except that lucas is the source material himself. hobbit films are much worse than the prequels, the prequels are more comparable to lotr trilogy, disney's trilogy will be more like the hobbit
>>
Just download the Maple Films fanedit and call it a day. Much tighter and removes a lot of the extra nonsense.
>>
>>80123574
Beat me to it. There's always scenes that some people would have kept or cut but overall it's a great edit, making the Trilogy shitfest a solid 8/10 4 hour movie. Loved the intermission at the 2 hour mark.

I LOVE this meme. Lucas is a hack fraud who stood on the shoulders of more talented people and had very little to do with the success of the original trilogy.

the prequels are bad. TFA may have been derivative, but at least it was competently made, which the prequels sure as fuck weren't.

So how long was this before the war of the ring?
>>
>>80123432
Interesting, some of those designs I don't like because they don't really fit in and would've looked 10x better as practical; eg Goblin King, Azog.

Would've been interesting to see 2 films embrace that aesthetic

>>

>>
>>80123855
They don't fit in with Tolkien no, the goblins for one have shitty weapons and armour unlike in LoTR when they are obviously well organised, good craftsmen and wear armour in the book. So I doubt even Del Toro's vision would've been particularly good, but at least it would've made the evil forces more varaible.
>>

>>80123704

No, a trilogy is 3 books, not parts or volumes. LoTR has 6 parts 2 for each volume and they consitute a single novel. Tolkien was fairly specific on this.

A lot, fortunately. Acting is good, soundtrack is kinda half-assed but still okay, the important scenes are done well. This leeds to edits like >>80124366 salvaging a really good Hobbit adaption out of the three movies.

One of the main issues is that in LOTR, Jackson sets up how the viewer really isn't supposed to be able to differentiate all that well between individuals in the different races.
In Rivendell there are more dwarves present and Gimli doesn't really stand out. They designed to dwarves to be pretty similar.

This gave them a problem with the Hobbit, even though in the books most of the dwarves are not given much development they're just present.
Fran and Peter however wanted the viewer to now be able to tell the dwarfs apart from just seeing their silhouette.
This leads to a more dishonest design through caricature. Something you can put on cereal and soda cans. It shows how he's not really treating the hard work and design of his first films in a very high regard.

And it leads to scenes such as "my wee lad Gimli".

>or elves can push themselves off falling rocks.
It's not about the agility, it's about him jumping up off a falling rock to above another falling rock, then falling down on to the other falling rock and repeating.

Once falling, you are falling, but never as fast as something that's already falling.
>>
>>80129021
Dwarves arrive at Bag End in 2s and 3s. Eventually door opens, one dwarf doesn't have a giant fucking nose. Oh, he's gonna be a love interest, I guess.

>>
>tfw it's been 15 years since Fellowship
>>
>>80129258
With heavy objects just starting to fall, it is. He can't fall down onto an already-falling rock because everything is accelerating, and it's got a head start and he'll never catch up, and only fall further and further behind as he's always further back in the acceleration point.
>>
the hobbit was a mistake
t. jackson
>>
Six months of preproduction compared to three years from LotR

Just for comparison's sake the main weapons in LotR were all made by actual blacksmiths. The weapons in the Hobbit were all just green tubes that got CGI'd into weapons. Sometimes props for scenes would be manufactured on the same day they were required for filming.
