What pissed me off about the reveal of the aliens was not their appearance but the fact that they could fucking move at all in earth's gravity. Granted this was a problem with the old WotW too, but just imagine trying to walk unaided in 3 G, you might be able to manage a fast waddle like your average Walmart shopper but nothing much quicker. Hell in the original story the Martians resembled octopi and barely had the strength to drag themselves about without their Tripods in Earth's punishing gravity, it was one of the whole points of tripods at all.

Honestly I'd probably let it be carried by a swarm of tentacles or spindly legs.

The spindly leg head escaping was one of the biggest horrors for me back then.

The ideas are so good, they just needed a slight helping hand to overcome being a puppet and it'd be top notch even today. Don't get me wrong, it still holds up, but it'd be like on par with anything they can do now with a few computer assists.

I'm very bummed out they ruined the prequel with shitty CGI. They had all the practical stuff done and shot. And they basically painted over it with budget CGI because the studios got cold feet.
