I agree with the kids part in terms of their shitty acting, but I can see why they were scared of fucking with X-24 because he could probably gut them all with one slash.

He COULD.

How did Logan get across the border with a bullet ridden limo? No one asked questions about it? Wouldn't there have been a massive manhunt for him after he murdered 30 federales?

I only lost my sides at I HAVE TO PEE

I dunno, sometimes the classics just can't be beat.

>>80049345
Not him but don't forget-they're, well, kids. Even with intense military training they're probably less precise with their powers than the adult X-Men. And THEY still had friendly fire issues at times.

It's a choice between "MAYBE kill the unstoppable ragebeast man-mountain" and "PROBABLY hit one or more of the two people among us who can actually fight on his level without shooting powers"

And be fair-telekinesis spic boy slammed a truck on him once Logan got clear.
>>
>>80050107

>>
>>80048883

I thought that about the kids, but then I realised X-24 is a relentless killing machine who could fucking wreck them and the whole point was they're just fucking kids. Pierce was just a normal guy with no powers.

I'm guessing through the unstoppable combination of

1. Driving like crazy over the backroads, without sleeping

2. Transigen going all hush-hush on the above-board popo to cover up their own pursuit of him

3. It's the Mexican border. Someone was smuggling a family drug mules, and the cops were getting too old for this shit.
>>
>>80050409
The hell? I thought he picked up the truck itself, not move the earth to move it.
>>

>>
>>80050407
To be fair they were all being raised as supersoldiers. Way I saw it, most of those other kids seemed to be the power-spam kind of mutant while X-23 seemed to be the only melee specialist, and one who inherited daddy Logan's berserk rage to boot. So the others would have been nowhere near as desensitised to close quarters combat since their training probably would've focused on doing stuff at range.

It's like a D&D party where there's a bunch of wizards, clerics and psions-and one girl just rolled a berserker.
>>
How cute was Laura though? She was pretty hot in a few scenes

>when she is sitting slanted waiting for the bad guys to come in to the run down building
>when she is looking at the black boy's earbuds

just watched the movie I have some questions. Why was Logan dying? I thought it was explained with the food/corn and whatever poison they used to suppress the muties but then somethings didn't make sense.

>>80050927
The adamantium poisoning is growing faster since his healing factor is slowing with age
>>
>>80050927
The adamantium plating his bones was slowly, slowly poisoning him; presumably his old age was because even the regen that kept him immortal was struggling against it. It apparently only started getting truly lethal at the time of the movie.
>>
>>80050927

it was a combination of things, the adamantium in his body, the food and drink that was sterilizing mutants, and just plain old age, he was 200+ at this point.

Acting catharsis, probably. Pretty sure he said an interview he was ready to step down from the role because he thought it was the perfect ending to his Professor X.

Who was that blockhead looking fella who got jobbed out by Laura at Logan's hideout? Was there any more to him or was he just another goon?
>>
>>80051285

just one of Pierce's Reavers.

Anyone like that creepy piano chase music a lot? Really stood out.
>>
>>80051285
Just another goon I think? Other than doc, Donald and X-24 pretty much everyone Transigen employed seemed to be a mook of some sort.

Also I know the "it's one possible future, not necessarily THE exact timeline" might apply, but considering Transigen was a spinoff of Strucker's conspiracy I'm a bit surprised X-24 is pretty shittier compared to the research that resulted in Weapon 11.

Not that I mind, though. Just saying, the tech seems to have backslid by a fuckton.

Good taste!
>>
>>80051469
Care to explain why?

Don't see what's wrong with that, unless you find weird albinos sniffing at stuff entertaining somehow. The scenes with him made it pretty clear they're torturing him to get the job done, not sure what you'd rather see.
>>
>>80051079
I'm just saying no one rolls out the red carpet for me but then they call this kid bad ass and I can't stand it. I would be more bad ass in the movie then him.
>>
>>80051514
The movie tells more than it shows, by a LOT. Caliban never showing his mutant powers was one of the most jarring examples.

By the way, when they were escaping the scrapyard, did you notice the CGI X-23 when she jumped on the limo to enter through the roof? Shit was so bad, looked like they left it unfinished
>>
>>80048883
You realize that 2 of your negatives are that the movie just wasn't what you would have done, right.
"I expected Sabertooth to be the villain. He wasn't, so the movie was bad."
"I didn't like that the movie was about Logan saving kids, so it's a bad movie."
>>
>>80051642
Fair enough. Personally I didn't mind since the main plot's largely focused on Logan: Fury Road so to me that stuff mainly exists to drive home how desperate his situation is. I'll admit I didn't even know Caliban was anything other than a weird albino until Donald decided not to kill him for some reason, though.

>CGI

At this point I'm kind of jaded by bad CGI in the X-Men movies in general, so I just appreciate that stuff's a lot less prevalent in this one than its' predecessors.

>>80051668
In hindsight Sabertooth's life is almost as JUST'd as Logan's.

>only bro walks off the battlefield because reasons
>join paramilitary organization to take him down for the promise of adamantium bones
>traitor bro gets adamantium first, kicks my ass twice
>won't even kill me
>fuck off to do absolutely nothing after we reconcile
>come back years later and he doesn't even recognise me before beating my ass again
>Magneto doesn't even bother finding me again for any of the sequels

>haha le funny over the top violence

Keep in mind that this is a comic book movie. Over the top and funny are a thing around these parts of movie making. It worked great. Imagine Two Hours of comicbook drama with typical kids violence - not the best idea. Besides, that formula brought Deadpool a box office success. It's a progression. Next movie will probably be the same.

Oh, and (You), cunting about violence and shit...I think you are in the wrong side of the internet.

>>80052520
I think you're a little oversensitive, desu. I thought it was done just right, to convey the atmosphere of the narrative. The X-Men are gone, Logan's on his last legs, there's no hammy supervillain to beat-there's just this soulless megacorp and its' shitgoons.

It does edgy gore right. Remember that cheesy little bit where Laura watches cowboys? That's the point of the violence: It drives home that violence has consequences you can't take back, and are irreversible, once you (Wolverine/Laura) whip out the claws. In the other films you can justify it because everyone he's fighting is so far beyond a Canadian with an attitude problem in raw powerlevel, but now he's fighting to survive in a situation where he doesn't start of wanting to, in order to protect the helpless.

You know in the other movies, Logan's constantly brooding about his past even though the action's played for capeshit moneyshots? That's what this film deconstructs-it's basically there to answer the question "why is Logan so miserable about having superpowers?". Because his powers do almost nothing except kill brutally, that's why-and do it so well the bad guys want his body to make more of him, perpetuating the cycle of violence he's come to despise.

Basically, violence is pottery.

This film would have been so much better without making X-23 an unstoppable killing machine from the start. It removed all the threat for the film knowing she could probably take on hundreds of soldiers (heck, don't think she even gets a scratch in the film). Was Logan even needed in the finale? It would have worked better with her being scared of her killing abilities and only fully unleashing them at the end (and would have fit in with the whole "they didn't want to be killers" theme that didn't seem too accurate giving how readily she kills).

Why introduce all the cowboy stuff without bringing it up again or using themes from it?

It felt like it needed more of a motivation for Logan to help the girl, ''shes made from my stolen DNA so she's my daughter" seemed really weak.

>>
>>80053309
I disagree, and I'm gonna go on for a bit again so to summarise up front: It's because in my opinion that's actually the point.

The film presents Logan as the grizzled badass we know and love, it becomes increasingly apparent he's a dead man walking and as such the whole fiasco's a coming of age story for Laura because the film metaphorically passes the Ultimate X-Men Badass torch from Logan to her.

Laura's main challenge is that she's even more socially inept than Logan at his worst from the beginning, so she gets angry and frustrated when anyone not named Charles tells her she can't just take whatever she wants and solve all her problems with violence. I actually LOVE that she doesn't start off scared of her abilities because that's been done to death in other cape flicks; she's a desensitized killing machine who doesn't understand what she's doing is wrong. It only fully sinks in once Papa Logan bites the dust.

And I disagree the average viewer would go in thinking she's untouchable. If you look at the opening fight she uses ambush tactics as well as berserk rage to take down the goons-and they DO know how to deal with her; she can dish out the pain but not tank it as well as Logan, and you can tell she KNOWS this when she flips out at being restrained after the family dies. More importantly, she's still a little girl without barely any sense of direction; she takes the Eden thing on blind faith, doesn't know how to deal with Logan trying to tell her life isn't a comic book. It's telling that for all her guts, she doesn't really act like an authority to the other kids.

And that's where the cowboy stuff kicks in. Physically as well as mentally, she's sharp but brittle and doesn't really get people beyond animal instinct. Logan was absolutely needed in the finale because again-she just goes attackattackattack whereas Logan still has the years of experience needed to figure out how to fight a numerically and strategically superior enemy.
>>
>>80053309
Oh yeah, and since post limit ran out before the last point: I got the impression towards the end his motivation was less "shes my daughter" because for most of the journey Logan's just bitching about how futile the whole thing is. I think his motivation actually changes quite a lot: First he just wants the money so he can buy Charles his boat, then he does it because it was Charles' dying wish and towards the end he does it mainly because he's on the verge of giving up on everything and she hasn't.

They start bonding after he and her fight together, so they start to get a better idea of each others' capabilities. I think the crucial part is when they tell each other their nightmares are about hurting.

Implying Logan's actual-and most important-motivation at the end is "I realise this girl is going down the same violent, regretful life I am, so the least I can do is kill one last bad guy to give her a little more time to grow up and deal with all the bullshit I have"
>>
Why Charles whispers "the yatch" before he dies?. Ir was his last Memories wanting yo be there with Logan?
>>
>>80053749

It feels like then she's cuffed that it's because the plot requires her to be rather than her specifically having any vulnerabilities or being overpowered. It never convincingly shows how she could be beatable when shes dancing around the soldiers and wiping them out with ease.

I think the complete unwillingness to show any injuries to any of the children doesn't help (even the shot kid has the shot impact offscreen with a bloodless wound). She never shows any vulnerability at all because they're unwilling to show her as being vulnerable.

>>80053985
Eh, I'll agree to disagree on that first part; I think it's fair to establish a dangerous raging bioweapon by having them be a dangerous raging bioweapon. That second part though-there's the sheer numbers of goons as well as the trap to contrast how she always has to be on the move or she'll be held down and have that thing strapped to her if one of the cyborgs just stop her bouncing around. And there's X-24 to contrast as an even more feral, brutal ragebeast; it's telling near the end she does fight him 1v1 but Logan ends up needing to pitch in again, and she finishes him with a bullet rather than her claws. Figured it was a way of showing her reaction to one foe she finally couldn't beat in a fair fight.

I kinda agree on the last part, though. I figured that was one of the few compromises the execs extracted to make sure the film's still marketable as capekino instead of an all-out drama, but I agree it suffers a little. For what it's worth a few kids have bandaids and arms in slings at the end, but presumably they would've been more leery about the leading child actress taking some permanent blows since she's the one the audience will pay more attention to.

>>80054154
I think it's easily the best X-Men related movie out there. It's got a very different tone to the others, because it's focused on personal tragedy and desperation without the grandeur of being part of some struggle for the fate of the world; everything's ostensibly already gone to shit for Logan at the start.

If I had a criticism for it, it's that the relationship between X-23 and Logan takes a LONG while to build up. And a lot of the backstory's details in offhanded mumbling and primarily there for implication rather than exposition since the plot's very focused on their escape, so it might be just a little frustrating to figure out what's going on.

>I wonder how many company execs saw those automated container trucks and got on the phone as soon as they left the theater to find out how viable the tech is/far away from patenting.

The set design really disappointed me in that apart from those trucks and Logan's "future" concept Cadillac limo and the Reaver's robo arms, this movie could have been set in 2014.

Of course I didn't want them to milk it and distract from the core of the movie, but this really didn't feel like 2029, Logan literally was using what could pass as an iPhone 6/7 with a re skinned launcher. Still loved the movie overall.
>>
Every person born outside Canada but within one generation of the native-born or naturalized citizen parent is automatically a Canadian citizen by descent (retroactive to date of birth or date citizenship was lost).

That's why the kids were making a run to Canada and why Laura was carrying the files on the kids, to prove that their fathers/donors were Canadian, thereby giving them Canadian citizenship. As for why their fathers were Canadian, the DNA samples were most likely leftovers from Weapon X.

I blame Sensitive Joss Whedon. I have grown to fucking hate the shit he puts in every fucking film.
>Let's break the tension with a joke!
>Let's kill a character for no reason other than to prove how shockingly mature my film is!
>Le ironic reference to nerd stuff but not actually having it in because I'm better than that!
>>
>>80065265
I wasn't stunned, the trailer advertised the movie truthfully, the tone and everything, I'm more surprised at that aspect, I thought it was gonna go full quip capeshit in the real movie
>>
>>80061631

I knew what was coming, but experiencing it cinematically, especially after all these cliché feel good MCU movies... well to say the least this movie blew me away in a good way.

I hope DC learns from this movie. I think majority of other marvel shit is too far gone to have this vibe.
>>
>>80065525
I'm sorry you couldn't hear the film over hundreds of screaming children Anon, but that's really your fault for living in burgerland.
>>
>>80065625

Very few kids thanks to 11:30 start time, so that wasn't a problem.

My Mayflower passenger ancestors put up with a lot of British bullshit for me to live in "burgerland" thanks.
>>
>>80065582
Marvel's gonna keep doing the same thing, as well as DC
Fox is the one that greenlit this movie, and I'm sure solely because Deadpool taught that R-rated capeshit can still make a profit
>>
>>80059162
Slow your roll there kiddo. This film is good, but not The Dark Knight good.
>>
>>80065702
>Very few kids thanks to 11:30 start time, so that wasn't a problem.

Well whoopey-fucking-doo. How about just make it none?

Sorry, not familiar with murrican cars. We only get Japanese and European brands round these parts.

everyone looked so gay in that movie
>>
>>80066634
yes. It could be Xmen 3 or origins wolverine
>>
>>80066691
I agree on origins, but 3 wasn't as bad as apoc, still shit.

But Logan is pretty geat, I would even call it "good"
>>
This is the first superhero movie in a very long time that I'd recommend to people who don't normally watch capeshit.
>>
>spent his whole life helping mutants understand their powers and fit in with society
>accidentally killed a bunch of his beloved xmen and students, also injuring hundreds of civilians
>leaving the scene of the casino incident crying, telling everyone on the ground in pain "I'm sorry"

Still believed in hope and finding happiness until the moment he died
>>
>>80066724
xmen 3 is even worse then origins. I think its by far the worst of the xmen movies
>>
>>80066807
The "villains" were right. Mutants are a liability. They just keep getting people killed.
>>
>>80066807
I wonder if he realized magneto was right.
>>
>>80066807
nobody else will ever be able to portray a better Charles Xavier.
>>
>>80066807
He got that family killed on the farm by staying there even though Logan said they should leave. He should have killed himself long before the movie; way too powerful and dangerous to be alive
