You have to drink a beer before watching that, then continue sipping through at least 2-3 more during the length of the film itself. This works for me, makes stuff like that watchable, turns it from long and boring to "so deep man, so artistic". I'm sorry I liked the Stalker movie while under the influence of copious amounts of a debilitating substance your daddy doesn't allow you to have while you still live in his house, while also jokingly noticing that said substance probably contributed to me not really feeling the length and slow tempo of the movie. I've since repented and rewatched once while sober, but I understand my reception of the movie will never be virgin and pure like Jesus intended and my enjoying of the movie will remain a satanic lie.

I like drinking while watching a film, but Stalker was hardly painfully difficult to digest. It was one of the first "arthouse" films I saw and I understood it fine.

just watched this again two days ago

then yesterday I read Zona by Geoff Dyer, it was a fun enough read with some nice insights into the making of the film

Roadside Picnic as a book is absolutely awesome, I'd recommend reading it before watching the movie, they're so different

also Writer's monologue at the well is absolutely amazing
