I dont know jack shit about cars.

Ive never even driven a stick shift before. I just need something with wheels that can maintain speed on the highway to get me from point A to point B.
>>

Euros are the only people that act like knowing how to drive stick is an accomplishment, and even then the only reason they act that way is the technology for automatic transmission isn't something they've mastered yet.

That said, I'm becoming more and more convinced that there's literally no difference between stick and auto other than one just kind of looks cooler than the other.

Yeah I love having to use both my feet and having to switch gears every time I have to brake. I love doing that in the city.

Using your toilet is for pussies, I like to be hardcore and do it oldschool and shit in a pot and store it under my bed too. That's fucking badass.

Automatic was developed to end the hassle of Manual transmission.... you know, an upgrade. If you're still stuck a couple of decades ago and like to use stick then by all means do it, but it is in no way an accomplishment
>>
>>80020392
A man who doesn't know how to drive is not a man.
>>
>>80020955
Here in my country automatic transmission is very normal now, most new cars sold have it, and many cars you see also have it. Prefer driving automatic myself, though i know how to drive manual and took my license on manual transmission. Glad i did, otherwise i could only have droven automatics.
>>
>>80020636
>Being a 32 year old man

Jesus.
I'd kill myself if I couldn't go somewhere on my own completely. Imagine having someone lug your fatass everywhere you go, knowing everywhere you've been.

That's just lazy anon, even other trust fund babies like Trump know how to drive.
>>
>>80021026
>Glad i did, otherwise i could only have droven automatics.

How terrible!
>>
>>80021034
Yes, because many cars here are still manual so that would've meant i couldn't have borrowed a manual car, or if an occasion arises where i would have to drive a car that's manual.
>>
>>80020699
Post a pic from inside the car. Or does your mom not allow pictures?

Your driver better better be wearing one of those hats.
>>
>>80021026
Driving is a menial task one does as part of your daily routine. It is not meant to be fun, it is just something you have to do. Automatic is designed to make that task less of a chore.

Manual is only justified if you're a professional race car driver or if you're a rice rocket enthusiast

and if you're part of the latter, you should kill yourself.
>>
>>80020955
Yeah driving cars with 3 or 4 gears is better than actually controlling the engine you're driving
>>
>>80021090
Yes, but driving manual becomes second nature so you don't need to focus on shifting etc as it happens naturally. I also feel i have a bit more control over the car on manual.

Instead of focusing so much on automatic transmission or not what you should focus is on improving the american driving education which is not good. Many western european countries have very good drivers educations where you practise driving in icy conditions for example.

Unless you're in the 0.0000001%, most modern automatic transmission have better fuel efficiency than manual. Literally 99.9999999% of people driving manual thinking they're saving gas are just retarded clinging onto 40 year old information.

Besides that, there's literally no objective reason to go either way.
>>
>>80021232
>Unless you're in the 0.0000001%, most modern automatic transmission have better fuel efficiency than manual

Are you for real?
>>
>>80021246
Yes. Modern cars have insane fuel efficiency with automatic compared to just before 2010s. Some brands you literally cannot beat anymore regardless how good you drive. They're designing them for that kind of stuff these days.
>>
>>80021232
If you care that much about fuel efficiency just get a fucking tesla you autist.
>>
I'm not even sure what double clutching is.
>>
Why are you discussing automatic versus manual when picrelated refers to two methods of handling a manual gear box?
>>
>>80021462
You used to have to first change the gear to "Neutral" in the middle, let the clutch up, and then clutch down again and change the gear to whatever you intended to. Nowadays you don't have to stop on Neutral.
>>
>>80021487

Because we all agreed that double clutching is useless unless you're driving a 30 year old shitbox

>>80020228
What? It's americlaps who act like driving stick is some big fucking deal. To everyone else in the world it's normal, and they think you're retarded for not being able to do such a basic thing.
>>
>>80021568
The idea is that while it's in neutral you rev the engine to get it up to speed, then clutch again and engage the next gear.
Granny shifting would be taking your foot off the gas, clutch, shift to gear, accelerate again.
>>
driving a manual is pretty fun...my dad taught me to drive one on like a really old used bmw i used to drive to school in

When downshifting it provides a smoother shift. Its completely unnecessary since the advent of syncromesh gears, and you can still rev-match without double clutching, but if you get it perfect it results in a very nice smooth shift, smoother than rev-matching alone.

Just got my drivers license this Tuesday and learned to drive manual.
The whole manual vs auto debate is one side not being interested in how cars work and just want to have a mode of transportation and the other is expressing how it's not a big deal because it becomes second nature.
Personally I think of the many things you do at least a few of them you should do with some sense of being informed. That being said, a car for the vast majority of drivers is a big part of their lives both financially as well as practically so learning how your car works and having some influence over it by using a manual stick is better than being ignorant and just refrain from doing/learning something because you're lazy but still want benefits.
Just my 0.02 cents of common sense, guess 4chan isn't the place for that.
>>
>>80020098

I dont have a car.

Though to be fair I have driven cars before and never without stick. Auto is not super common in my country.
