Why was this considered a good movie?

because its a good movie

Plebs were a mistake

>a visually stunning, atmospheric lo-fi sci-fi film (thats actually tolerable to watch), with interesting existential themes, and anchored by one of Amy Adam's most subtle and emotional performances

Because nu-male dumbasses confuse Hollywood pseudo-intellectualism for meritorious content.

(((They))) don't make good movies any more
it LOOKS like a good movie
It had restraint and didn't treat the audience like idiots. The characters had more than a base level of depth and the plot was unburdened by the worst of Hollywood's cliches and tropes. It draws from an earlier era when sci-fi wasn't a war power fantasy full of destruction and desolation.
It's good, like it does good, but it's unremarkable. The fact it was elevated speaks more to how terrible films are today.

you think we will ever get to a point where 70s scifi art starts getting put into sci-fi movies again instead of the drabness?
i liked it
not as good as first contact
I didn't like how at the beginning you had this sense of urgency in that woman having to translate an alien language ASAP by the military, only to be followed by what was basically a really long montage covering several weeks or months. I forget.
Anyway, thought I was going to get a sci-fi thriller, ended up getting a... I don't know what this film was supposed to be. A romance movie?
>entire movie is pretty consistent
>climax involves a retarded paradox
Why?
>Abbot is death process.
I wasn't expecting to feel feels on an alien movie.

this pretty much
You can't really blame anybody for falling for it. It really SEEMS like it has everything and it's definitely more subtle than Nolan sci-fi. Like, if you aren't a critic then it's probably everything you want from a sci-fi movie. It's pretty much unforgivable that the critics loved it so much, though. I think that they must have fallen into the self-perpetuating circle of villeneuve hype which is, you know, mostly unfounded.
