I was in a local healthy/expensive type supermarket here in Princeton, New Jersey (we have a lot of those) and I'm in line to buy some ham at the deli there. We ended up having coffee at a place across the street. Turns out he bought a house in Mercer, a really expensive county in NJ, and has been living there a while. We talked about everything that wasn't his career for a long time-- it's difficult to explain, it's hard to say how long-- before he had to take off because his deli stuff was gonna go bad. I shook his ear and said he made my year today. He exploded with laughter and beat my head in with a baseball bat. I looked up from the floor, my eyes covered in my own blood as I made out a blurry image of an orb being hoisted above his head. Through the ringing in my ears I couldn't hear his probably non-linear parting line regarding "the notion about I as in the context of we" before the orb came crashing down, ending my corporeal life.

Let's be realistic, TNG is far more popular and the Blurays sold not well enough (apparently the transfer was very expensive). DS9 has the same issues, but has more effects (read: would be even more expensive) and less people are interested in it to begin with.

James T. Kirk. I had seen next gen but only recently went back and watched TOS/movies, and was taken aback by how rational and level headed Shatner's Kirk was. Of course he was prone to anger and violence but only when it came to that to save his only love, the Enterprise. And obviously Wrath of Khan is the best character study in all of Trek, hands down. The Kobayashi Maru is a brilliant set up/pay off that builds Kirk's character.

O'Brien and Quark seem consistently the best written but O'Brien was a very plain character yet was meant to be. I just don't find the DS9 _main cast_ similar to how normal people talk. They don't even feel human at times.

Say what you want about Voyager, I feel like the characters were much more relatable than even TNG characters (but at least within conversations they sounded like people).
