quintessential film noir? give me some examples
>>79935623
Chinatown, L.A. Confidential, Blade Runner

These are all neo-noir. If you want some actual film noir try the Maltese Falcon, Double Indemnity, Mildred Pierce, the Third Man. There are plenty more, but those are some of the best.
Kiss Me Deadly and Touch of Evil are my favourites.

Sunset Boulevard is great. Also good and by the same director, Double Indemnity. Vertigo is kind of boring but still worth watching. It's probably Hitchcock's (overrated meme director) best. Basic Instinct is worth watching.
Overrated boring noir: The Maltese Falcon, Chinatown.

The third man
>>79935750
maltese is spectacular
>>79935775
> Hitchcock overrated meme director
> Maltese Falcon and Chinatown overrated
Real edgy there kiddo.
>>79935825
Agreed. Just rewatched it a couple weeks ago, I love it.
>>79935837
If I was being edgy why would I praise the Billy Wilder films?
>>79935864
I just think it's hard to argue that Hitchcock isn't one of the best of all time. He made more great movies than probably any other director.

I'll be The Third Man to recommend this film.
Ha ha ha.
>>79935775
>Hitchcock's (overrated meme director)
Fucking plebs man

They're full of slow pacing and idiot plots. It's not just the age because there are plenty of other old movies without these problems. Some of them have good scenes but none are solidly entertaining all the way through.
>>79936000
Psycho, Rear Window, Rope, Strangers on a Train...none of those are solidly entertaining all the way through?
>>79935775
>overrated meme director
Jesus Christ
>>79936053
>Psycho
Boring first half.
>Rear Window
Trolls the audience into expecting a plot twist that never comes. You're thinking "surely it can't be boring all the way to the end, it's just setting up something interesting", and then it ends.
>Rope, Strangers on a Train
Haven't watched, already wasted too much time on boring Hitchcock films so I doubt I'll bother.

Not liking his movies is just your opinion. And I'm sorry you've shit taste. But objectively speaking Hitchcock was an incredible director, master of the craft and an inventor of great technics, that have become an standard. He is certainly not overrated by any means, as a matter of fact I would say that becoming such a recognizable figure and a part of the pop culture has undermine his achievements as a movie maker

I don't care what he invented, I watch movies to be entertained. People were already making entertaining movies in the 30s and 40s. Billy Wilder is also considered "great" and his movies aren't boring.

Eh, boring is subjective at this point. I'd say there are a lot more people than enjoy Hitchcock than don't.
