And pardon me for saying it. But Johannson is aging fast and part of her appeal was that she was sort of a heavier voluptuous nerdy girl next door. She's just too plain to really be hot and be a conventional sex symbol (but as an unconventionally hot, chubby, and seemingly approachable nerd type; she was Hnnngh tier).

And she just seems old. Some women get their quicker than others, I'm aware she's in her 30s but it seems like they're using a ton of makeup and studio magic to convince us that she's a conventionally hot sex symbol, I just don't buy it.

The issue is that the original film was incredibly influential on cyberpunk film as a genre going forward. You look at Hollywood sci-fi after the Wachowski's make the Matrix in '99, the creative DNA is spattered around.

Making an Hollywood adaption of GitS now is creatively devoid because it's essentially cannibalizing itself. Anything from the original film that was innovative or new isn't any longer, except perhaps the contemplative and existential tone that we don't really see in films sold mainly on their action.

From the trailers, I doubt we're gonna get much of that existential tone or mediations on the nature of consciousness except, again, in the pillaging of lip-service from earlier Hollywood sci-fi that was, again, influenced by the original GitS.

That being said, I hope I'm wrong and that this film does surprise me; I'm just very doubtful.
