Moonlight is the most artistic and powerful film to have won best picture in the last 30 years. Many Oscar winners tend to be trite, conventional, big budget, cynical etc. Even children's movies have this kind of snarky attitude. Moonlight has none of that, it's a completely sincere work of art. It's has less regard for usual narrative beats or conventional screenplay, more focused on internal than external conflict, it's full of compassion and vulnerability and it has a level of intimacy and challenging content that Hollywood simply does not reward most of the time.

Meh.. the acting of child and teen Chiron was terrible, it was just "Im a beta so I should probably avoid eye contact, look Im acting xDD". The last act was the only good part about the movie. A film thats 2/3ds bad is not a worthy best movie winner.
iTSA GOOD MOVEE BECUS THEY'RE BLACK AND GAY

Do you even /pol/?
Intrusive overcooked camerawork, transparently mechanical script, one-dimensional acting, not queer. Jenkem is an inauthentic fraud.
2/5
>Instead of critiquing social traditions as Techine and Britain’s Terence Davies do in their great films about gay self-realization, Jenkins gets saccharine. Juan’s woman (played by neo-hip-hop singer Janelle Monáe) ingratiates herself to Little with the neo-Mammy bromide “There’s nothing but love and pride in this house.” A better film would show us rather than tell us. This is bathos. Moonlight’s best moments come in Little’s reaction to Juan’s affection, but later scenes of Chiron’s erotic confusion and Black’s maudlin self-pity (he wears muscular drag yet succumbs to weakness) insist that viewers feel sorry for black gay males. It’s nothing more than the vivisection of a political demographic.

No Country for Old Men is infinitely better.
Manchester by the Sea had better acting
Arrival had better sound
Arrival and Hell or High Water had better cinematography
Fences and Hidden Figures dealt with 'blackness' better
Lion and Hacksaw Ridge were more emotional
There was literally nothing Moonlight did that it's competitors didn't do better. It was a truly average movie.
Did it take 12 years to make though?

>Fences and Hidden Figures dealt with 'blackness' better
Moonlight does it better and it doesn't try as hard as Hidden Figures and Fences
>Lion and Hacksaw Ridge were more emotional
Again, these movies try way too hard. Lion is one of the most well manufactured oscarbaits I've seen and Hacksaw Ridge is too corny
>>79916435
Hacksaw Ridge and Arrival were some of the worst films from 2016.
