Autists constantly complain about things from the books not being in the films, but fail to ever explain how you could script and edit the autismal mess of LOTR books into coherent watchable films while keeping EVERYTHING in.

Apart from the ghost army shit, I think Hackson did a pretty good job. Arwen was a bit over-played but that's a minor criticism.

I also think Jackson did a good job but lets be honest, this would have been better as a 10 hour tv show for each film (like GoT). Also, it woulda been nice to see the Mirror of Galadriel come full circle as it was supposed to.

I don't mind the missing content so much as I mind shit like the elves showing up at Helms Deep (the whole point was proving that man could stand alone against darkness), or having Saruman literally possess Theoden, detracting from Wormtongue's powers of influence. My point is that I understand trimming content for time or clarity, especially with this franchise, but the shit Jackson changed for the fuck of it took exactly the same amount of time or more to implement into the films.

they cut out some things and change a lot of the dialogue around.

when the hobbits first leave the shire they have to go through the barrow downs. i forgot what exactly happens because i haven't read the books in 10+ years, but they get trapped in a tree and these ghoul things kidnap them, then tom bombadil comes and saves them.

they also switch a lot of the dialogue around. that speech wormtongue gives to eowyn when she says 'your words are poison' was actually said by aragorn to eowyn, i dont remember why.

also there's no aragorn+arwen romance sub plot in the books
