Natives lost.

there was a nigger hanging around white people like it was normal

Leo's """"""""""acting""""""""""
>>
>>79803051
Everything but the leads and the direction. It has no historical grounding, no ideas, and the main plot fizzles out as a draw. All the acting talent is wasted, but it looked good.
>>
Diaz was awful, Leo was mediocre, Lewis carried their sorry asses
>>
It was a 3 hour movie, but Harvey Weinstein made it 1 hour 20 minutes and said that full version will never be released

Why? I dunno. Probably contained some scenes where characters say FUCK KIKES or whatever

Please come back Daniel Day Lewis.

The movie is like 2:47 you goof.
>>
My favorite part was when they were naming all the gangs present at the fight and he goes "The For-ty Thieves"

You were the extra that got to say that line, weren't you?

>no ideas
It has plenty of ideas, it just doesn't execute on them in the best way.
>>
pretty weird to go to the part of NYC where this takes place, since its where all the courts are now.

If you ever watched the original Law&Order, you know all those scenes where they would be talking outside of the courthouse, or in a park in front of the courthouse? That park is the square from gangs of new york.
>>
Bill also claims that his father died in the battle of Lundy's Lane, which was a failed attack on Canada, yet the character draws the wrong conclusions from this and the script isn't engaging enough to address it.

>What about the lingering role of the defeated Federalist Party in America?
>Attitudes toward Andrew Jackson?
>Earlier scenes might've dealt with Pre-Nativist groups which were vying for a monarchic family in the U.S.
>>
>>79803051
Nardo can't act
>>
It has Cameron Diaz in it
>>
This movie would be the bomb if it was about some bigger conflict leading up to the fight in the beginning. And obviously it wouldn't have Leo.

Casting Daniel Day-Lewis, which is always a mistake.

Pacing issues and a sense of making up the plot as they go along. Like the election shit. So unnecessary for the story and just made me disengage.

People say its a great performance, and it is for awhile, but the script doesnt puzzle out his role. He clearly has a close relationship with Tammany Hall, and initially it sounds like he may be pro-Lincoln, yet he's not helping to assist with the Union Army. He possesses a Jacksonian interest in spoils for their own sake.

Some time after the enrollment act of 1863, the Butcher is shown enjoying an Uncle Tom show. So in that context, the Butcher is suggested to have pro-slavery attitudes and we would assume him to be a supporter of the American South, but that is the sole indication of a broader political loyalty. The butcher even uses the word 'Nigger' as a pejorative term, but he's neither a Crown Loyalist, a Lincolnian, or a Southerner; he's a racialist for the Eminem era.
>>
>>79807911
Northeners and Southerners hated niggers alike, the war was about slavery, not racism.

>eminem era
?
>>
I don't understand how Leo could get branded on the cheek with a white-hot iron, and there wasn't even a trace of it within 10 minutes of screen time
>>
>>79807987
Yes but a self-professed Nativist would be aware of the Anglo-American interests in maintaining Southern slavery. A Loyalist might have an abolitionist perspective, but a nativist would see things differently.

>DDL listened to Eminem to get into character, but you could argue he went too far
