Holy shit. This has been one of the most shocking and grisly movies I've seen in years. The movie had me tense the entire time, an impressive feat considering how desensitized 4chan has made me. Honestly I was semi-terrified most of the movie. Oh, and did I mention it was pretty fucking great? What did y'all think?

Will Green Room still shock me even if i just watched this?
>>
I watched it along with someone that' absolutely hated it. She thought the plot was confusing(?) and said it was too violent.

I loved it, it's sticking with me. I've done some shows in some really seedy venues and the set design was real enough (and I've been in some strange, sketchy situations myself) that it seemed very possible but still remaining fantastic. Does that make sense?
>>
>>79799212
I'm really looking forward to Saulnier's next movie. This and Blue Ruin are fantastic. Such an impactful use of violence is refreshing in an industry overrun with pg13 capeshit.
>>
I have the same feelings, the arm scene really got me scared, it truly showed how shit hit the fan and really upped the stakes for everyone.

Its probably my favorite movie of that year. I look forward to more of Saulnier's work.

Dunno about anyone else, but I thought the sound mixing wasn't great in some scenes. There was a good bit of dialogue I couldn't understand when I first saw it in theaters, even from Patrick Stewart who speaks pretty clearly. I missed a few details on first viewing, like how Darcy has Wyrm killed, the significance of the baseball bat in that one guy's trunk, a few other things.

A few weeks ago I streamed it with captions and understood it all much better.

Sure take the chance you can cover up 5 murders and then ice their families just in case, but it would be much easier on his end to let them all walk if he knows for a fact they aren't going to say shit. Film me killing a dude and keep it as collateral. Do not give up the gun though. That's your only real surefire escape if everything goes bad.

It was a murder weapon he was keeping as either collateral or to use to out the neo-nazis to the police.

I'm not sure if the logic of the baseball bat is explicitly stated or if you just need to piece it together from the situation.
>>
>>79801179
What the fuck? Have you never left the house, or do you just live an incredibly charmed life? The band freaked out because the situation had escalated waaaaaay past anyone's comfort zone and it was very apparent that dying was not out of the question. People react very strongly to that kind of tension.

>unexpectedly end up playing at a skeavy skinhead bar
>walk in on a girl getting murdered after a bad drug deal
>get locked up by the venue owners without explanation
>they let the murderers go but keep you under lock and key

That's too many strikes. Who on Earth would be chill about being detained by a bunch of unambiguously murderous neo-Nazis?
>>
>>79800991

>>
>>79801461
I just think there's a gap between the characters knowing they're about to be killed and the viewers being able to determine that the characters are about to be killed that makes the movie kind of shit. There's a lot of possible explanations for what happened that the movie ignores. The number of people who "didn't get it" seems to confirm this point. >>79801268

Even if you want to eliminate the possibility of it being an accident, a murder happening shouldn't make them worry about their lives. How do they know the murder was committed by the people running the venue, and wasn't caused by some random drunk people? The characters immediately conclude that there's some conspiracy involved and we don't get to see their thought process on it.
>>
>>79801315
this, if I were in that situation firstly, I would pull out my tanto inside the green room and decapitate the big guy before he can even react, then I'd escort the ladies to safety and hide, waiting for the other fascists to appear before swiftly cutting them down
>>
>>79801509
I was going to say "what's it like being 15" but that works too.
>>
>>79801531
It's a murder weapon from a past incident. Darcy told him to dispose of it, but he held onto it instead, as a bargaining chip if he ever wants to go to the police. When Darcy finds it, it proves that that guy is a traitor, while also taking away his piece of leverage
>>

Dude, try a little harder.
>>
>>79801657
People get shot and stabbed by accident all the time.

Either way, there's a rule in visual storytelling called "show don't tell." This movie neither shows nor tells. It assumes.
>>
>>79801694
I won't, but thanks.
>>
>>79801577
Did we watch the same movie? The murderer yanks the knife out of her skull, literally gets right up in the band leader's face, and tells him that he killed that girl. They couldn't have spelled it out any more fucking clearly "You are in danger." You have to be trolling or retarded if you couldn't follow that part of the movie
>>
>>79801706
Are you shitposting or are you really this much of a stubborn fuckwit?
>>
>>79801734
I'm just elaborating on one of the (myriad of) reasons that this movie is mediocre.
>>
>>79801762
If your other reasons are as flimsy and stupid as this one I don't care.
>>
>>79801706
Are you fucking kidding? A) It's absurd that you would qualify someone having a knife being shoved into their skull as something that happens all the time. B) It clearly shows the club security freaking out about them finding the body. How could the audience not come to the conclusion that the girl was murdered?
>>
>>79801762
So you're intentionally misinterpreting obvious scenes and pulling bullshit out of your ass, because you can't just say "I didn't care for it," you have to convince yourself that anybody who liked it is stupider than you.
>>

>>79801625

It's one of those very bad situations that could conceivably happen, maybe not to you, but to someone you know

>>
>>79801794
>>79801706
Not to mention >>79801730. Like am I remembering that scene wrong? He asks Anton Yelchin the title of the last song he played, then says "I did her to that song." There was no ambiguity to that scene at all.
>>
>>79801814
No, Patrick Stewart shouts "Wyrm saved us!" The whole shitstorm that Wyrm started by killing that girl in the beginning led them to find the bat in the guy's trunk which, presumably, could've put Patrick Stewart in prison and ruined their whole operation
>>
>>79801814
It's been a while since I've watched it so I forget. I don't think so; Wyrm didn't seem like a red lace given the fact that Stewart's character was so willing to try and kill him with the bad dope (fuck up or not).

>>
>people getting this triggered I don't like their gay nazi movie

Just face it, the main cast's reason for freaking out is poorly established. And by extension, it makes the entire movie feel contrived. It's clearly a pretty commonly-held opinion as well.

Quit getting so mad that somebody disagrees with you.
>>
>BANG BANG
>BLOOOOD

>>
>>79801762
No, elaboration would require you actually clarifying your point. All you've accomplished so far has been to establish to everyone that you're a fuckwit. Is this the part where you claim you were only pretending to be retarded?

nobody is mad m8, everyone just thinks you're dumb
>>
>>79801968

>Just face it, the main cast's reason for freaking out is poorly established. And by extension, it makes the entire movie feel contrived.

Is it? Because aside from constantly repeating that, you haven't convinced anyone that it was the case.
