Dune (1984) offers more information to people and touches on topics and realms misunderstood by many and accurately does it portray them.
Star Wars and Star Trek are both cucky gay bullshit only there to provide another drop of dirt into what should be a clear and pristine pool of life giving water.
Dune is a documentary.
It is not a movie so much as it is an information dump of remote viewing sessions

Dune has always been /tv/
I'm happy to see it entering our pantheon of classics
OP is right
Only problem is we'll never see the intended 8 hour Lynchian masterwork

As the film currently exists, yes this
But even still it's pure kino
well, let's compare the source material.
Dune, written by Frank Herbert, a renowned science fiction writer thoughtfully exploring the themes of fanaticism, hero worship and desert ecology.
Star Wars. a tribute to the SF serials of the 30s, which were cheaply re-badged african explorer and cowboys vs indians films.
you're sort of comparing apples and deep-fried dog turds there, anon.

I agree OP.

So as someone who read the book but never watched the movie:
Is the movie better?
I mean I don't want to call the book shit, because it isn't, but it's so chock full of outlandish nonsense, like mathematical theorems being objects of worship, that it feels like it's a comedic bastardization like the Starship Troopers movie, and ends up being too ridicolous for its own good sometimes.
So again: Is the movie better? Is this a Planet of the Apes kind of situation where the movie makers took the most ridiculous parts and redressed them/cut them down to make a better story?

>mathematical theorems being objects of worship
HOW OUTLANDISH CAN YOU FUCKING BE!!!!
>WORSHIPING NUMBERS
HOW BASE!!
>>79791367
the book is always better than the movie. Brad Dourif, who played Piter de Vries, said in the book "The making of Dune"..
"Cinema is aimed at average people, and average is dumb."

>chock full of outlandish nonsense, like mathematical theorems being objects of worship
the fuck book did you read? i don't remember any of that shit in "Dune". you didn't read one of the shitful prequels by mistake, did you?
No one would ever worship the complex witnessed poems of nature written in numbers that form objects that are both thrilling and mathematical
Too bad this thread is a shitpost cuz i actually agree. I love dune.

I'm talking about a part almost at the very beginning where an academic building is described as being the Sistine Chapel, except instead of religious imagery, it's mathematical formulas painted on the walls.
Also I recommend you read Planet of the Apes for the first part.
Granted, it's my only example of the book being worse than the movie, but it is an example of it happening.
The protagonist is a Journalist, who wants to boost his career by volunteering to go along with a 200 year expedition, and takes 2 fucking weeks to show any sign of intelligence to the apes, despite not being muted by an injury, and having no one destroy his attempts to draw symbols. And these apes were downright looking for odd behaviour, but he couldn't manage to produce a tune, repeat a phrase, draw some shapes or mimic some gestures, instead of humping his cell mate, for 2 weeks.

yawns
just fuck off

there is nothing that is not a shitpost. it's you who harbors the cold water hose down to repeat bastardizations of our language and then apply them to genuine expressions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0344qRfAOtA

No one would paint them randomly on ceilings and walls.
There's a perfectly good medium to admire them in already.
It's called a book.

I unironically like this movie, it got me to watch the sci-fi channel version and eventually read god emperor and half of the godawful trilogy that came after it.
