What season is a good introduction season for a newcomer to the series?

It's going through a low spell at the moment. Perked up couple years ago with the Lucy storyline but since the episode where it was revealed Bobby killed her it has gotten really shit again. The writing is all over the place currently. They killed off 2 of the most prominent characters in the last decade over New Year (Roxy and Ronnie) and yet one of them has barely been given a mention, with seemingly no one grieving for her. Yet the one who stole a baby and murdered several people is being remembered as a true bastion of goodness.
