It's a shit movie that hides behind the moniker of sci-fi, kinda like Predestination. Some pseuds on reddit and youtube (nerdwriter1, for example) try hard to make it look as if Villeneuve intended it as some sort of meta commentary on narrative and the language of cinema, but in reality he's just a hack who wanted to pander to the LOLMINDFUCK MIND=BLOWN crowd by adding a cheap plot twist to a less than average movie.

it annoyed me how the whole thing with the Chinese general's phone number was literally the one time in the whole film there's a non-causal relationship between events. It made it just feel like a plot device.
