Which episode is the worst offender in the "future perfection moralizing" category?

Right now I'm watching "The Neutral Zone" and I hate how condescending everyone is being to these past people.

>People are no longer obsessed with the accumulation of things. We've eliminated hunger, want, the need for possessions. We've grown out of our infancy.

>"Well, from what I've seen of our guests, there's not much to redeem them. Makes one wonder how our species survived the 21st century."

Could Roddenberry lay it on any more thick? If I'd been one of those frozen people and received that welcome I'd probably see if I could defect to the Romulans when they showed up. I'm sure there are episodes that are even worse in this aspect but I can't think of any right now.

Also /trek/ general.

This is why Star Trek fails. Infinite space means infinite banditry, piracy, general lawlessness and all other forms of thievery.

They can't have eliminated want because everyone wants more than they could ever possibly offer. When they fail to supply, the cool stuff that you never see in Star Trek begins.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind that it takes place in a socialist utopia. If they got FTL travel to work it's not such a stretch to think they got communism to work as well.

I hate when the characters get all smug and moralizing about it. Opponents to the ideology are presented as caricatures, strawmen for the heroes to defeat in argument.

It's part of why I liked DS9, where characters were allowed to critique the premise of the setting without being villainized.

Says Picard whose ready room is full of things.
>>
Nah, that was pretty much the worst in that regards besides maybe The Last Outpost (first Ferengi episode).

Their dealings with the Maquis always felt like this to me too

>Lol sorry bro we gave your planet away
>What do you mean you won't leave? We'll give you another house, idk in Chicago or something
>Okay, defending yourselves from the bloodthirsty barbarians we gave your planet to is just not cool, we're sending in the not-a-military to stop you
>>
>>79760484
Yeah all those fish and that book. Dude was rich as fuck. Ready room was literally a palace.
>>
a fair critique since humanity in Star Trek canon almost destroyed itself multiple times

also it's a normal way to react, just like we today can look at the past and consider those ancient people barbarians
>>
>>79760484
you can accumulate stuff without being obsessed

>>79760612
>start an intergalactic war because you don't want to leave your planet which wasn't even "yours" to begin with
>>
>>79760690
Sorry to be pedantic but it was an interplanetary war at best. Even the Dominion come from the same galaxy.
>>
>>79760762
intergalactic sounds cooler
>>
>>79760794
True enough
>>
>>79760690
>>start an intergalactic war
It's not the Maquis' fault that the Cardassian government were providing weapons to their people. The Maquis were just defending their homes.
>>
Bajorans are homos
based Nausikans are bros (except in Enterprise)

That is a good point, we'd probably condescend to past people too. However, suppose we took a well-educated businessman from the 19th century and put him in the present day. If we started lecturing him about starving street children and so on, he could argue back just as forcefully. He could probably make plenty of valid arguments that our time isn't as nice as we pretend.

In "The Neutral Zone" the rich guy could have made some intelligent points, but he never did.

Do you think Picard included in his captains log that he tortured two aliens on the bridge?
>>
Were there police in the Federation? Theft may be gone, but crimes of passion still happened.
