Can someone explain this to me?

Did Syd just come into Clockworks hospital to get David out? Was she faking it when she was in there?

Because the first scene she shows up she is spazzing out when he gets too close ("Too close, too close!) acting mentally unstable and shit but that basically disappears after episode 1 and she seems normal.

If she was there just to get him out how did they even know he had powers? Since it seems like the bad and good groups weren't aware of him until the incident when they "heard him".

But Syd rolls up with the group when they rescue david like she has been pals with the good guys for a long time. Even talks about her "memory training" and stuff like it's way in the past.

I just don't understand Syd's timeline of events.

The Yellow Eyed Demon is a manifestation of David's first toy as a child (physical appearance), combined with his hatred for his father and fear of his powers. It's not a character from the comics to my knowledge, but an original entity. He's the gatekeeper to many of David's abilities and memories.

In the comics this show is based on, Legion is Charles Xavier's son, and basically has the potential for a unlimited amount of different mutant powers which manifest through schizophrenic multiple personality disorder. He switches personalities to use different powers, so for instance he likely cooked all those soldiers in episode 1 himself but in his head Sydney did it. He also probably escaped that facility on his own.

The World's Angriest Boy in the World book seems to suggest that he killed his own mother by accident when he was a child when he got too angry and had no knowledge or control of his telekinetic power. It seems like he created the Devil with Yellow Eyes as a result of this and that the Devil represents his subconscious view of himself as a disgusting monster after killing his own mom.

Two scenes suggested to me that Melanie Bird is Professor X, the way she telepathically helps him to tune out the other voices in his head by focusing on hers, and the scene where they're in his memory of childhood and at the very second David says "my dad" there is a hard cut to Bird outside the memory looking uncomfortable for no discernible reason.

One odd thing about Syd is that in every first person view of her there is a bright golden light somewhere in the background. I don't just mean the first few times but every SINGLE instance of the camera facing her.

More important was the scene where David is asleep in the hospital and his bedroom door opens by itself, the floor is shown to tell you that no one enters the room, and then suddenly Sydney is standing above him. I don't actually feel like this needs explanation but he subconsciously opened the door with his telekinesis to support his delusion that someone who isn't real came into the room.

I love the use of visual clues to tell the story. The Devil with Yellow Eyes seems to change size based on how much control David has at the time.

The first time it is seen is while David is hanging himself, it passes by the doorway behind him and it looks bigger than the doorway, he is obviously in a weak mental state.
When it is shown during his freak out in the kitchen after his argument with his girlfriend about her leaving him it looks much smaller, about knee high maybe. It's about the same size when he sees it behind him while Dr. Bird offers her hand to him.

When he switches minds with Syd in the hospital and she starts to lose it, the Devil starts growing to reach toward the ceiling and that outburst is the strongest use of his powers yet, altering the design of the entire hospital.

This is another personality of David. At one point in his life he became fat (smelling the cake in the third ep was a hint to his past fat self) and this creature is how he saw himself back then. He became withdrawn while he was overweight, started becoming spiteful towards the world, and started lashing out as well. He teamed up with the angriest boy in the world at that time and started doing some really shitty things because he no longer cared for the world.

Eventually an incident made him change his ways and he decided to become a better person. Unfortunately for him, his darker, fatter side still resides within his mind, controlling his memories and setting the angriest boy in the world loose once in a while.

Especially after Lenny in ep 3 was trying to convince David to leave Summerland and go save his sister from those Division 3 guys, and the suggestion that Lenny is actually the Devil with Yellow Eyes, it seems possible that the Division 3 guys are also personalities of his. Like there's a struggle going on between the different personalities in David's head over control or influence of him, Division 3 vs Summerland.

Another thing was that they had a cage with some kind of beast in it and the cage was filled with red light, the same kind of light that is always associated with the Devil appearing.

This should have just been a movie. That first episode was absolutely 10/10. And everything since has been boring as fuck. them pretty much immediately confirming he actually has superpowers is lame as fuck. I don't care about muh comics, it was way more interesting when it was ambiguous.

That's exactly what I think is going on. I mean this is a Marvel tv show, I don't think anyone would be too bothered by that kind of development outside of people who have no tolerance for comic shit. I think it's a good idea to at least slightly familiarize yourself with the Legion comics just to prevent this kind of disappointment. Just a glance at the Marvel wiki page about Legion will let you gather that everyone helping him out with his memory at Summerland is probably an alternate personality of his.

Honestly I think Summerland is a place Xavier built inside David's mindscape to help him cope with his overwhelming power and all the personalities stuck in his head. Two things stuck out to me that admittedly will only seem like clues if you're actively trying to draw this conclusion, right as Ptonomy mentions to David that Bird thinks he's the key to "winning the war" David hears a voice over a loudspeaker saying something about a "time travel class" which sounds like something that would happen at Xavier's School for the Gifted, where David could very well be in reality in some kind of coma or whatever. The other thing was the big X in the window identical to the O in the word Legion in the show's title >>79777778
