It's magnificent. It shifts effortlessly from sublte comedy to edge-of-one's-seat horror. I honestly can't think of a more terrifying debut film in my 40 years of watching them.
The trick, however, is not to treat the film politically. "Black man seemingly persecuted by white folks" is a theme that can be argued against, there's no doubt of that, but if you treat it more as a "stranger in a strange land" comedy/horror film, you're going to be extremely rewarded.

This is true.
I was tipped off by the reviews for Ghostbusters. The glowing ones did nothing but praise the idea of an all woman cast and take time to shit on people not liking it. But they don't talk about the movie. They don't really say anything other than "it was good, see it". Not even a stray "good performances" nothing burger.
They didn't mention the movie and talked only ideological agenda, 10/10 rating.
