What did /tv/ think of the new Lego Batman movie?

Walked in thinking I'd like it.
Walked out wishing I'd never seen it

I was so fucking bored. Doesn't help that I was kinda hungry. First movie in a long time where I actually checked my phone during the movie.

Didn't see it but I'm guessing they flanderized the first LEGO movie as manchild-bait and to make money from toys and games and stuff. Can someone who watched it confirm this?

I'm an adult, so I haven't watched nor will watch it.

It was just too much. I was really enjoying it at the start but had already worn thin by about 20 minutes in.

The humor was pretty good but i'd have liked it more if it didn't devote so much time to being so relentlessly sentimental. There were like 6 """"emotional scenes""""" and it really dispersed any kind of impact they could have had on me if there'd been good build up into payoff

I've been asking this question since the Lego Batman video games from five or six years ago, but why does this exist and why are they Legos? If the movie is anything like the video game, there is no actual reason that they need to be legos. Why not just make a Batman cartoon?

pretty simple, it's marketing. Kids like Lego a lot right now, and Lego Batman is just a perfect formula for kids for some reason.

It didn't have much going for it, and I'm a huge batman fan aka virgin. Opening sequence was pretty fun but it was mostly downhill from there. The original lego movie had a really unique humor to it and the batman movie didn't capture that all. Joker-Batman dynamic wasn't that great, Robin-Batman dynamic was alright but very predictable, not sure what they had in mind with Barbara but she was pretty boring. The bane voice was my favorite part but that's just because it's a stupid meme. If you want a funny batman movie watch the 1996 film, if you want a quirky movie with great visuals stick with the original lego movie.
