I think there's a dichotomy here that most of you either missed or haven't addressed yet.

Consider how Jon is shown. The Sex Survey video introduces Jon as an imposter, and eventually, some sort of apocolyptic anti-Christ figure (also not that when the imposter Jon is killed by the Shaman, he collapses into a pile of worms, which historically have been associated with Hell in religious iconography). The Shampoo video also paints him as a hedonistic degenerate.

Garfield in contrast is portrayed in saintly, even divine terms. The John Barrymore Pipe video draws parallels to John the Baptist, and the almost providential mathematical properties that Garfield possesses. "Bad Romance" even casts Garfield in the role of St. Peter. Also consider the Garfield shaman, though initially menacing, is actually a totem of justice who destroys the evil Imposter Jon Arbuckle.

So, underneath all the experimental shock value is really a universal allegory of the constant struggle between good and evil.
