The formula is changed up in cool ways a few times too. They've got a lot of varied stories to tell. Dracula's Curse is the most "Classic" sort of Castlevania plot. It's got all the elements. BUT!

There's one where a backup family to the Belmonts is involved and the backdrop is WW2. There's one set in 2000 with a Japanese hero who is destined to become a new dracula. There's a gigantic demonic war in 1999 that was never covered in a game but is totally cannon and ripe for a movie or something. Shit, there's even that whole Order of Ecclesia deal where we see some occult church types trying to engineer magic runes based on draculas power to kill him with his own bullshit.
