I thought it was very weak too

The conflict felt way too forced and unnatural and I just didn't find it funny at all, chuckled like twice

>>
Megan Ganz wrote it - her first ever episode - which explained why it was so fucking awful.

It also explains why AV Club gave it a straight A...because she worked there and is Twitter feminist friends with half their 'writers'.
>>
Good premise, horrible execution. Should not have been heartwarming at the end. The Gang are stuck with each other but not nice to each other unless united by an outside threat.
>>
Easily the most tryhard, fan fiction, utter, utter, utter abortion of an episode I've ever seen.

By the end, I was only watching out of morbid curiosity. And I actually thought before this that it had been a pretty good season so far. Not vintage, but better than last year,
>>
It was a bizarre episode. Nobody acted with each other.

Dee suddenly makes valentines for Charlie for no reason

The Gang being excited to see Cricket and letting him use the bathroom. Before this they always call him a street rat.

Mac being that needlessly sentimental to Dennis. They're dependent on each other but in a very bizarre and unhealthy way. This was far too nice and normal RPG aside.

Dennis suddenly being concerned with running the bar normally.

Work being "trick" and frank talking about putting feces up his ass were the only sunny-feeling aspects of the episode
>>

>>79711812
I don't get what you guys didn't like about the episode did you not find black dee and charlie being jealous of a tape worm while totally oblivious that dee is in love with him? Gay for free? The gang's inability to just do their jobs without getting distracted? It was full of laughs for me, it reminded me of season 5 that had episodes like "Mac and Dennis Break Up" and "The Gang Gives Frank An Intervention". I like episodes that touch on their relationships to each other, not everything has to be about schemes.

>They basically need to cut on the same shitty rehashed joke like Dee being made fun of or the Mac is gay thing.
They've been doing this for a decade now. Seriously you all make the same complaints - "wah they're referencing past jokes (something they've always done)" "wah mac is gay (he was aways)" "wah theyre making dennis gay now too (again always hinted at from episode 1)" "wah why did x character do this thats not like them (you are not paying attention to intentional character development)".

Don't listen to /tv/. /tv/ only wants to shit all over everything.

It's pretty fucking great until season 9.

After that it's still good, but like others mentioned, it has more rewatch value up until 9. But there certainly are gems and high points.

10 and 11 are good, but not as great as before. 12 and 13 are a bit hit and miss. Some great high points, some low for the show's standard.

The thing about this show is that it's never downright bad or unwatchable. I feel that even the worst episodes are still way better than most comedy out there. The show's continued existence is justified simply because even at its lowest it's not really low. Although I don't think it will be as great as it was.

I'm a bit worried by this new female writer, though.
>>
Why is everyone here shitting on season 11?
I thought the only bad episodes from it were "dee makes a smut film" and "being frank". The rest were pretty great.

I thought last ep was.
>>
>>79712652

>Trumpet

Disregarded. Also, it's like he didn't even watch several of the episodes, he just wants to whine.

The Gang Goes Black made loads of jokes that would trigger SJWs and BLM. Just so happened that with the new wave of "populist correctness", Trumpets will be just as triggered as SJWs if they don't agree with a joke. They pulled punches at both sides.

He wants some alt-right safe space show, but this show has never been about that and never will be.

PC culture has not ruined this show. If you view everything through an identity politics lense, nothing is good.

He is just as bad as those people he complains about.

The idea of the gang actually doing their job was great but the execution was very poor.

The idea of Charlie being jealous of a tapeworm inside Frank is great, but it was executed in an unfunny way.

The only thing I liked was how they were talking about how horrible the valentine's exchanges got and how it went as someone putting "anthrax" in there.

I also liked how a sweet moment of Dennis getting a gift played out, making it seem like it was a puppy or something, then it turns out to be an RPG. The only thing that made that great was how it was acted out though. I genuinely expected kittens or something because of the look on Dennis' face.

Forcing diversity over merit is fucking retarded and it clearly happened on IASIP writing staff. Another example of this would be the sitcom episode about charlie's and mac's moms. It was written by two 42 year old female hacks who only got that job because they have a hole between their legs. Ridiculous.

Seriously, look up their previous work and tell me they are qualified to write an IASIP episode, they both have a WIKI page. Enjoy.
>>
>>79718571
And just to add to this. I am not saying that Charlie, Glenn or Rob didn't have a weak episode but just realize that sitcom episode is the best work those women could possibly write, that was their time to shine and what came out is a dud that unironically relied on fart humor.
>>

Some women are funny but it's rare. Tina Fey, Joan Rivers and Melissa McCarthy are the only ones who come to mind. Except for Joan Rivers, they've had to compensate for not getting by on looks. As such, women comedians are rare because most women eventually get by on either pussy or looks.

Also, they have specific comedic trains of thought that I think don't necessarily translate to shows like IASIP very well.
>>
>>79712268
Them being nice to cricket was reminiscent of the earlier episodes when they had him around. The only thing missing this episode was them doing the "creak creak" sounds.

To be fair and play devil's advocate; Charlie is inconsistent as fuck
In "who pooped the bed", Dee uses Charlie's notebook to know the waitress' schedule and whereabouts
But literally every other episode implies, if not outright states, that Charlie is an illiterate who writes in a manner that's incoherent to everyone except himself. So how did Dee decipher it? She literally reads a part of it to the waitress

The cast doesn't care about this show anymore, it's just a paycheck till it gets canceled. Charlie has movies now, glenn pulled his hot wife. Rob is married to dee who is doing other work. Why should they give a fuck about a show that's been on for 12 damn years. They want to move on.

If you don't like this show of the subtextual narrative and character explorations they've been doing the entire time, then it's understandable why you wouldn't like this episode or felt like it wasn't like Sunny.

But if you care about that stuff it was great payoff. They have been setting up Charlie and Dee and Mac and Dennis for years.
>>
>>79726338

Give me a break, its a 22 min comedy, they only reason they "set things up" is because they can't write jokes anymore.

The idea of Charlie and Dee banging would have been laughed at in S4 just like it should be now. Mac/Dennis is just the worst idea the show has ever had. God forbid there be one show on TV that doesn't pander to teenage girls who want to write fan fiction about two faggots. It's no surprise the show has gained an audience of tumblr morons since Mac started becoming more gay, they latch onto anything remotely homosexual.
>>
>>79726338
setting up dennis for wanting a RPG? should have gotten him some fancy rope or new gloves. life time supply of zipties. why the fuck does he want an RPG all of a sudden.
>>
>>79726475
>The idea of Charlie and Dee banging would have been laughed at in S4
Charlie and Dee have had chemistry since s1 and have had tons of moments together. Charlie and Dee being "partnered" for episodes is as frequent as Mac & Dennis or Charlie & Frank episodes (which are actually more rare these days).

>Mac/Dennis is just the worst idea the show has ever had. God forbid there be one show on TV that doesn't pander to teenage girls who want to write fan fiction about two faggots.
Literally something that has been in the show for a decade now. Just because you assumed it was "no homo" doesn't mean it was.

>why the fuck does he want an RPG all of a sudden.
I agree they should have set this up more. But if he had mentioned it textually it wouldn't of been a surprise so I guess it made it funnier.
>>
>>79726715

They haven't hinted toward Charlie/Dee until they made out last season and they've hinted at Mac liking Dennis since he started acting more gay, but nothing more than that.

I think season 7 is the last 'great' season where pretty much every episode feels consistently funny. Although seasons 8-10 are well worth watching and have some worthwhile episodes. Season 11 is when the show starts to feel a bit 'off'
>>
This series has no plot whatsoever. Every episode is literally just the first stupid to cross the retarded mind of the writer. No one single character has any development whatsoever. There's barely any narrative that lasts more than a single episode. I don't know how you enjoy those epic adventures those crazy guys get into my man.
>>
>>79726786
In the second episode of the series Charlie is trying to get Dee to pretend to be his girlfriend - it's to make the waitress jealous sure but he tries to snuggle up to her and she pushes him away cause he's sweaty. In the sweatshop episode Charlie hits on Dee after accidentally going on about his sexual fantasy. In the online game episode he thinks Dee wants to have sex with him and is into the idea (not understanding she's just talking about the game). They were having dinner dates together to eat Frank's meat in the episode where they were cannibals. Charlie is the only one who sees Dee as normal in "Who Banged Dee?". This is all just off the top of my head, go back and rewatch the series.

>they've hinted at Mac liking Dennis since he started acting more gay
Mac and Dennis have always been a bit homoerotic, played for laughs, but Mac told Dennis he loved him in s3 when they were being held hostage.

I watched the first 2 episodes and I had to stop.

It's like the delivery of every line is off, like there's no back-and-forth, just people saying stuff without saying it to each other. There are very few jokes too, just a lot of zaniness.

I guess that the word for it is lazy? There's no drive to the conversations, they don't go anywhere. It's all sort of pointless.
>>
>>79722870

The problem with neo-sunny is that the show has always been about the neurotic characters. Like every line had a purpose. Now everybody just feels like they don't really care that much (except Dennis who is pretty much carrying the show at the moment)

I defended Season 11 and thought it had some really funny moments and I really wanted to enjoy this one too but this is different. It's been in kind of a slump for a while but there's a different feeling to it this time. I hate to admit it but this season really just kind of blows

>>79727640
The show isn't getting worse because they hired minority and female writers, the show is getting worse because they hired people who were fans of the show before they started writing for it and are more interested in coming up with funny episode concepts than they are actually coming up with jokes

Watching the episodes this season, especially last night's I'd say it's the complete opposite. These new writers have no understanding of the established characters and their traits, instead they try and give them "new" traits, which makes the episodes seem out of place and look like fan fiction
>>
>>79730547
You're not the only one that thought that. I did too and so did many other people.

http://observer.com/2015/02/birdman-law-always-sunny-director-matt-shakman-on-inspiration-for-charlie-work/
>Last night’s episode, “Charlie Work,” seemed to be a very specific homage: with a third act that appeared to be a continuous, seven minute tracking shot, punctuated with a jazzy drum riff and a running joke about a room full of chickens, how could it NOT be a parody of Birdman? I contacted director and Always Sunny EP Matt Shakman for confirmation… but he told me the episode was written and shot well before the Academy Award-nominated film was on the radar. In fact, the tracking shot was inspired by the now infamous one on True Detective last season, just minus the Wu-Tang score.
>>

Yeah that's sort of what I mean. Maybe I didn't phrase it well enough. It's like the premises are kind of funny but the dialogue is so awkward because it sounds almost like what somebody trying to impersonate those characters would say.

They actually had to do some crazy stuff to the set and they did have cuts (Protip: Birdman did too).

From the link in >>79730651
>MS: Exactly… we did it like Birdman, even though we didn’t know about Birdman, because they didn’t have sets that connected either, so we both used visual effects to blend it. If you notice, whenever Charlie is walking out the door, we lose him for a second, and we use the door and the mullions on the window to link up the door on the exterior location with the door on the stage.

>Even the beginning is an optical trick: We see Charlie walking down the street and into the bar, which literally, we cannot do. There is no set on location. But the goal is to have you think “I assume these things connect, why should it be any different?”

>When we go into the basement we do that old trick of going down into black, through black, and now you are in another pool of light, but it’s a different set. And when you come up the stairs, there’s a green screen, which we panned off into and used to blend with a plate of the keg room to appear to be one continuous shot. We did it all without having it actually all connect.
>>
>>79730920
>Protip: Birdman did too
no shit
>>
>>79730885
Still pretty impressive though.

>Matt Shakman: So onstage we have the bar set, the back room office and the keg room that connects—you can actually walk between them on-set. But the bathroom has always been a separate set; and the front of the bar is an exterior in downtown LA. So is the alleyway behind the bar.

>So for this, we had to build a new bathroom that connected to the bar, and it was built into a fire lane, so we had to be able to swing the fake walls open quickly in case there was a fire and people needed to get through.

>It was incredibly time-consuming, but we knew that in order to make the “shot” work, all the sets that could be together needed to be together. The basement, because you’d never be able to build it connected to the bar, you’d have to dig a hole in the stage, had to remain a separate set.

>We built part of the back alley on stage as well, but the first time you see Charlie go out there, it’s the real alley in downtown LA. We wanted audiences to feel like “Oh, this is real, we’ve seen 360 degrees.” It’s in a continuous tracking shot, because we needed to see DeVito running away down the alley. But the next time he goes out there, when Charlie finds the delivery guy arguing with Dee, that’s set on-stage. And then again when they come out with the health inspector, that’s on-stage, too.

>But because the audience has seen this set once for real, they don’t really notice the change.
>>

Yes they did have the popular vote, however, the United States runs on an electoral college system, which is what Donald Trump gamed on whereas Hillary went for population centers and votes. Trump won by shooting for electoral college votes. How can so many people be this clueless?
