Miller is dead. The alien machine uses Miller's persona to communicate with Holden on occasion. He first appears at the end of second novel with a "We need to talk". But it's just a machine using a Miller-imitation persona, not the real person in any way.

I see fragments of so many franchises in it. I'm being triggered more by the unfaithfulness that's creeping in over the seasons.

The books are okay, if I hadn't read most of them I'd probably be happier with the series, even if aspects are on the extremely cheesy cliche side at times.

It's ultimately a light sci-fi space opera romp where the beginning starts off masquerading as 'hard sci-fi'. As much as I enjoy it, I can't call it the greatest thing I've read. But it is one of the best things SyFy has produced in years and I do hope it lasts many seasons. Do go read it people, it's short.

The goal would have been to confirm course change and nuke himself. Earths nukes should have been far enough away at that time to head off the station, impact and divert it. If julie the biocomputer/navigational terminal is dead the protomolecule cannot redirect itself again. But then the rest of the series wouldn't take place.

The facts are that miller got through to her with the 'don't hit earth bit', even though hitting earth would be a huge priority for more biomass. Like what were the requirements for building the gate? More living organisims? Ain't getting that on venus. More rocks/material? Sure that's on venus. But why couldn't it just turn eros into the gate? Most of it was meant to break up in venus's atmosphere, then probably get nuked to fuck.

The logic here makes no sense. How much survived entry to venus, that it had enough matter to build the gate, whereas it could have just done gate building on eros.

Yes the whole running around the solar system was ONLY because they tried to slam a colony into it, had they not done so, Eros would probably have become the gate.

Well I can say bobbie wasn't what I would call subtle, either in the books. so unfortunately I think that is more problem of the source material combined with how they wanted to adapt it.

The more the show has gone on though, I'd say the changes they've made to some characters are for the better like Naomi, she/her book stand in was such a cunt comparatively to nuanced portrayal we've got on the show, even if Amos and her are really only standouts on the crew, and to be honest she disagreed with a lot of millers decisions to point of shitting on holden as he takes on miller's traits.

the characterization was juvenile almost and they made her more of one of her people in that they have a share commonality that comes with personality traits and that world building has been for the better of the show even if nobody ever sees it.

Miller never thought of anything more noble than that and he has a deep love of his people, but there is a cynicism there of watching how life treats people.

Anyway, this episode kinda disappointed me. I discovered that the VFX Supervisor for this show occasionally posts on the expanse subreddit so I went over his post history, and he said that this episode was one to look forward to, so I was a little hyped for it. But eh, it was okay. I really didn't like how the interior of Eros looked like the regular space station just with some blue lighting and CGI fireflies everywhere. I was expecting some real body horror shit, like back in season one with all the dead irradiated belters in a pile of corpses festering with protomolecule growth. I haven't read the book, but apparently there was a lot more creepy organic stuff in that version. I even read something about crawling ribcages and whatnot. The show-version of Eros in this episode was pretty much just "pretty blue lights". I was also disappointed that proto-Naomi looked so 'intact'.

The ratings are such that it will get a 3rd season.

If the 3rd season holds the same ratings, they will make a 4th season just so they can get 50+ episodes for syndication. (50 episodes means they can offer it as a 10 week strip or 1 a week for a year without a repeat)

Part of the reason why Syfy does it is that Expanse and the magicians have rehabilitated the view of Syfy as a place present show ideas. Syfy had people refuse to offer shows since the quality of their shows was so bad, so they gave Alcon tons of money to make the expanse. They spent season 1 really only getting half way through book 1 but now it's finished and I think they're going to rush book 2.

They've already introduced allot of book 2 characters and really the stories of books 1 and 2 were so closely linked they feel like one story anyways.
