The show is deviating from the comics since David is actually Xavier's bastard child in the comics. What you're talking about takes place after David has been sick and crazy for years. It's also not where Legion is left off as he later ends up losing control and having to actually heal himself.

In the comics, the way it works is that David is mentally ill (either DID or Schizophrenia or something, it's comics, lol). He has an insane amount of powers and his mind splits each one off into a different personality.

It's unlikely the show will follow the same exact route but the truth is probably a combination of him being both mentally ill and having powers. I'm personally expecting him to have other personalities that are the cause for everything. That said anything is possible at this point. Hell, every character could just be David and this could all be in his head.

It's hard to tell, as Lenny seems to be in his pre-asylum flashbacks.
I'm pretty sure Lenny is a personality he's manifested, as is Syd.
That's the think, he's able to take his power and use it to manifest his imaginations into reality.
This is why no one had records of her at the facility when he called. She had never been there. He was just using his power on literally everyone there, manifesting her and having them react as if she was real.

Granted, the argument for lenny is a lot stronger than the argument for Syd. It's possible syd just thinks she killed Lenny because she couldn't control the power, and that caused the manifestation of lenny to be "killed"

IMHO, the point is that he's a powerful telepath so his mental traumas (fears, sorrows, regrets) are more real than those of us muggles.
So the normal psychological defenses that even we put up in our minds against our miseries, are way stronger for him.
Stronger to the point that if you go in his mind you are in actual peril and stroger to the point that if he has a mental breakdown they lashes out into the real world.

Just finished watching the episode.
Pic related scene gave me the spooks I felt the hair on my neck erect.
The second half of the episode felt like a legit movie so all in all I though it was pretty good.
I was concerned a lot in the first episode but it seems that they know now what they will create.

The silly Hollywood stuff bothers me. The unnecessary, comical effects in the bullet trails and random fires/explosions. The soldiers missing all of their shots except for that one; could have been written better/more realistically.

But I agree that it isn't that bad relatively speaking. The telekinetic guys effects weren't that bad and the camera work was bretty gud.

David clearly didn't grow up in the middle of nowhere if he trick-and-treated in the suburbs, not to mention that original scene of the mountains w/ his young sister doesn't appear anywhere near their house.

Clearly any scenes with his 'past' involving that childhood is completely made up, a place for david to hide memories, rather than actual memories. Besides, the parents in that house noticed the old lady telepath when she walked by, clearly indicating they aren't his real parents, just david's fake memory parents.

The real question is what did david do. Did he kill his mom? Did he blow up an entire town, thus absorbing all of their personalities (the ones yelling at him)?
