It's alright. Book is better. They kind of butcher Staros's character in the movie by making him super sentimental. It's good but uneven because of how often it has one foot in "war is hell" and another foot in "action war movie tropes."

Shamefully I have not read the book yet, but Staros' character pretty closely fits with a solid CO.

I didn't have one, but Staros really reminded me of my platoon sergeant.

Sean Penn also made a pretty believable first sergeant, especially considering the period.

The battle scenes were effective. Did not give a shit about any of the characters except Busey, though
