This. They weren't even watchable. Futurama had a solid 6 seasons. Simpsons had 10 or so. You can only do so much before things become stale

The setting is just more creative. Each episode can be new and draw on different concepts. It's why Star Trek never gets old, where family sitcoms are constantly mocked for being monotone.
