I actually don't know. I saw a couple episodes with a friend and it's not bad but I don't see any reason to spend my time watching it.

And I don't mean to say I'm too smart or something; I just get nothing out of it. For example, I'll read Michael Crichton over it. His stories are okay, his characters complete shit, BUT I get some interesting facts and concepts out of it.

One Punch Man doesn't seem funny enough, enjoyable enough, or deep enough (you know, no real characters, stories,etc) to watch it. I guess it's just a comfy time killer for most.

It's a parody, which I would consider a niche genre, made only more niche by what it parodies.
Interesting characters like Fubuki, Metal Bat, Tatsumaki, King and Bang get expanded and Saitama goofs off more, but only after where the anime has adapted to.
The currently adapted content gives you a decent taste of OPM's world, but relies on you liking Saitama or Genos, if neither really captures you then I completely understand dropping the show.

its a play on how, in comics/manga, a character's strengths and abilities are inversely proportional to how consistent, useful, or competent they are or how much effort they're willing to exert.

Not much use of the trope in the mainstream west, as even the capeshit movies try to have every character trying as absolutely hard as they can at all times.

So, saitama has completely infinite strength, but hes slow, lazy, dense, oblivious, etc.
