Season 4 is great, no doubt, but the kids framing and lack of certain main characters makes it somewhat more self contained vs other seasons of the show. Season 3 is the best because it contains the best developments and conflicts of the main characters up to that point. The triangle of Stringer vs McNulty vs Avon is the most compelling stuff of the entire series.
