The IMDB message boards were one of my favorite places in the internet. Reading the topics and discussions about the movies were sometimes even more interesting than the movie itself, lots of different opinions, theories about the plot, explanations, topics pointing out small details that most viewers probably missed.

IMDB committed a gigantic mistake.

Fuck you too, IMDb. For a replacement, I've had good luck with themoviedb.org . They have a DB of films and each one has a forum. The alternative is moviechat.org . They have actually imported many old IMDb threads, but have no DB to back it up. I'm rooting for the former, but I'll go where the people do.

The only times I had a decent discussion on imdb was on films either made before 1980 or ones with less than 25k votes

Never cared about having a discussion on imdb, never even made an account. Reading other people's thoughts right after watching a movie was just a comfy thing to do. That's what I'll miss, it was quite relaxing and usually informative.

Just checked it. Many movies have no discussions going and Interstellar has 4 open threads. Not promising at all. The other one looks like a better candidate.

Based on what criteria, exactly? moviechat.org screenshot shows no threads created recently. Those present are imported from IMDb with zero recent activity. themoviedb.org otoh, has four new threads created in the last week with 14 replies between them, the latest reply three hours ago. Not a landslide, but it's a start, and infinitely better than the wasteland that is moviechat.org.

It became a ritual of mine to go onto the imdb boards after watching a movie/TV show. It was especially useful for older obscure stuff that you really can't discuss anywhere else.

That was the best, it was almost completely free from shitposting and trolling since the boards were separated and no trolls would bother finding a board for some obscure movie that gets extremely low board activity to troll on, so most posts were made by people who genuinely cared about discussing it.
