The Vamonos, Children scene from Signs. I saw it when I was 11 or 12 and it REALLY freaked me out. I couldn't finish watching the movie and had trouble sleeping for months. Saw Aliens hiding behind bushes on my paper route.

The thing is, I'd seen plenty of 'scarier' movies before then, The Blob with Steve Mcqueen, Alien, even Akira and Armitage (thanks dad), but that fucking alien marching past and GLARING into the camera terrified me.

You're right. Conventional movies can never be truly scary because the low frame rate constantly reminds you that they're not real. We need at least 120fps before genuine horror movies can be made.

>>
>>79642969
What made it so scary was how real it felt. The news camera footage, the alien being in such close proximity to humans and our homes and buildings, the sudden eye contact. It felt like you were with the cast on the couch staring at the screen with the same uncertainty and curiosity but also knowing you're all on the same level of anticipation

It was a long time ago, longer now than it seems.

Idk it's fun. I like to explore and climb trees. You can see all sorts of interesting things in the woods at night. I also live near some abandoned mansions and you can sneak into them via the woods. It's not like I do anything bad, not even property damage, but I am never chased into the woods. Not even by the police.

The best recent story is when I went to an abandoned art deco estate and climbed up the elevator shaft. I found a secret room at the top which can only be accessed by a revolving bookshelf on the floor below or if you have access to the elevator (the place had keycard readers). I felt an impending sense of doom, so I eventually sprinted home (this was the same night I got robbed so my bike was stolen).

That was going to be my first choice, that scene where he goes into the basment with the film guy gave me legit chills. I'd consider it a murder/mystery.

I'd also like to give a shout out to Grizzly man. Every time that nut job was chillen beside a grizzly I was freakin the fuck out. YOUR TOO DAMN CLOSE DUDE, GET THE FUCK AWAY.

Also Stalker which is considering a science fiction film. That tracking shot going down the creepy metal tunnel made me incredibly uneasy, and the vast amount of unexplainable phenomenon as they went further into the zone... Best not to watch it really late at night with the lights off.

You have to watch horror as a kid for the movies to be able to do that, when you get over the initial scariness you have to immerse yourself and let the movie spook you.
It's like watching any movie, when you start watching it, it's like unspoken contract that even though it's actors in front of camera, you let the move do it's thing, if it's fantasy movie, you let impossible things to slide without overthinking because you know it's a movie.

It's dumb, but the first Austin Powers had a scene that really scared me as a kid. Dr. Evil drops some guy into a fire pit and you hear him screaming. I pretended to go pee before that scene so I'd miss watching it.

Another one is watching Titanic in theater and ducking behind the seats when the ship was sinking. I guess I generally didn't like people screaming for their lives in 1997.
