Lizards were an actual serious problem for the great wall of china though. They would reside in cracks and burrow deep as possible, starting large colonies, and weakening its structure from the inside. Historically, Chinese armies would have to repel their lightest female warriors down to the sides of the walls to eradicate the pests with two sharp sticks. Hence, the invention of the bungee cord, and subsequently, the chopsticks. Probably one of Zhang Yi Mou's more underrated films imo.
