IMDb had a message board for practically every film ever fucking released. It has thousands upon thousands of pages for films so obscure you'll never hear of them in your lifetime, and each one had a board. There was plenty of great discussion to be found. There were posters there who are such film nerds they've seen several thousand titles. There were places on IMDb where quality films were thoughtfully discussed among people with a genuine passion for cinema, which happens on /tv/ once in a blue moon.

That's a problem I have with most fan-operated boards, which is why the IMDB boards were a truly unique experience. Every movie had its dedicated board, but they weren't specifically designed to be fanwanks.
