star wars is more of a closed mythic cycle and is therefore more grandiose but less amenable to endless sequels. it's like doing a sequel to Wagner's ring cycle. guaranteed pure garbage.

I've thought that star trek has more variety in general, there are still just a couple of types of stories but they are varied. a political story, a high concept, an alien of the week, character study, an action story.


The original Star wars is the classic heroes journey. It can continue, it just need to realise it's base is in mythology not pew pew laser fights.
It could more stories as inspiration. The prequels tried this they are similar to paradise lost or a tragedy but we know how that turned out.
