Funimation, dude. Probably late this year. In America atleast.
Nips get that 4 disc 4k blu ray soon
Can someone for the love of god please explain the fascination with Godzilla to me?
For today's standard it looks like absolute shit, so I am left with "nostalgia for childhood movies" as my answer. Don't tell me it is for the story either, it has as much depth as a puddle in the desert.
I am not joking around, I genuinely do not understand why people are so enthralled by this franchise if it isn't for nostalgia.

Then leave
>muh effects
Very few movies look actually good today. The apes movies and that last Star Wars had scenes effects, but most like id42, batman v superman and avengers look like crap
Going to be a long time before we in the USA get the full rip + SUBS. Blu-ray, even longer.

How is "then leave" an answer to my question? Surely if you love this Godzilla franchise you should be able to put into words what it is you love about it? All the other movies you named are shitquels that largely sell because of an established fanbase.
Shin Godzilla is scheduled to be released on DVD and Blu-ray in Japan on March 22, 2017.

A few of the Godzilla movies (including the original and this new one) had social commentary and political satire as a primary theme. The first one especially was a way for Japan to convey its feelings on nuclear destruction at a time when it was a touchy topic to portray on film (which is why the movie was edited to shit when it was released stateside, removing much of the meaning).
However, most of the Godzilla movies are people in costumes fighting eachother over miniature cities with charming special effects and the absurdity of seeing that on-screen played (for the most part) straight is very entertaining.

Its gonna be like a month.
Probably won't have official subs until the american bluray, but someone will do an okay job

The rip is the main issue. Subs will be easy - we have both the censored HD rip and the uncensored cam rips. Once I get my hands on the BD, I'll do it myself. All I would need to do is OCR the subs from the HD rip and transcribe in what's missing from the various cam rips floating around.

i liked some godzilla movies as a kid, i was pretty disappointed when i tried watching one again recently but the new one is seriously great asides from being a godzilla movie. it is satire/horror though so you ought to at least have a surface level understanding of what's been going on in Japanese society/politics lately. doesn't require as much knowledge as i just made it sound like i think....
