There really isn't really any valid criticism you can make about Goodfellas that isn't some meaningless buzzword.
>>
>>79597126
kino
>>
>>79597126
It's a classic and for good reason.
>>
This is dumb
Le mafia man redemption story
Le omg I ain't a frickin rat haha xD
Le plot twist I gotta be a rat to save my mama Mia!!
>>
>>79597126
Cool movie but probably a bit overrated.
I think it lacks a certain degree of interpersonal drama thats needed for a great film. I think it has a bit of Fight Club-factor in that people really enjoy the escapism and the idea that if the chance arose, they too could have had a similar life.

Joe Pesci is great though.

There wasnt real tension in that scene. Overrated as fuck
>>
>>79597996
It's not a tense scene, you know exactly what's going to happen.
It's a cool scene about how gangsters dealt with stuff.
Also, WAY DOOOOWWWNNN BELOW THE OCEAN

I sometimes wish Casino developed the protagonist's wife the way Goodfellas did. Allowing Karen to explain herself was an interesting concept.

I'd say it's kino, but plebs latched onto it because they couldn't sit through the Godfather.

Now it's overrated as fuck and seen as pleb tier because of literal faggots.

There's a big argument claiming that women couldn't understand the movie.

>Somewhere along the way, Martin Scorsese, or his subconscious, made a crucial decision; his trilogy is nonfiction, based on first-person accounts. “True crime,” as a form, always entails a certain trade-off. You gain in authenticity, but you cannot rearrange the narrative to give it artistic cohesion, artistic shape. You are left with happenstance and inadvertence—with the messiness, the loose ends and false leads, that attend any human life. Scorsese, however, finesses the difficulty. His visual logic provides a guideline through the chaos. And for him, anyway, the mess is the message.

>According to Nabokov, the artist doesn’t punish the gangster merely by staging his downfall—a “tiptoeing conspirator,” say, with his cocked handgun. The artist punishes the gangster through ridicule. In Goodfellas the antiheroes blunder through a terrible anticomedy of shootings and beatings, of stabbings and stompings, their lives an unexamined nightmare of contingency. Coppola portrays the mob as a trade union of warrior capitalists. Scorsese’s hoods are sociopaths trapped in a category mistake. And they don’t even get the joke.

>Scorsese has a literary model: Kafka. The influence is most obvious in After Hours, in which Kafka is explicitly quoted, but it also sustains Scorsese’s vision of the underworld. Nothing could be more Kafkaesque than the central tenet of mob life, which runs as follows: This man is your lifelong friend, but he may want to kill you for money; you have to understand that; that is “this thing of ours.” In its dealings with the cosa nostra, Scorsese’s camerawork displays all its inimitable edginess and urgency; but we shouldn’t overlook the director’s steely moral wit. His goons see mob culture as a vibrant alternative to the schmuckville of 9-to-5. Scorsese insists, however, that they are money’s slaves and money’s fools. And he has them bang to rights.

I like that Casino seems more like we're watching Rothstein's "stations of the cross". It seems more structured than Goodfellas.

Did they even try with this fake article? It's almost gibberish.
>>

Doubled text supposedly means it's not true, according to film analysts like Rob Ager.
>>
>>79600331
I disagree. Casino felt a lot more disjointed
>>
>DeNiro is on the front of the poster
>>
>>79600671
too many leaps in time, you think? Too much with Pesci's character and not enough with De Niro and Stone?
>>
>>79600787
Not so much. Casino and Goodfellas both had cuts in time and meandering plots but I was a lot more invested in the characters of Goodfellas because there was more at stake I felt. At worst in Casino, De Niro was going to get arrested? While in Goodfellas there was the constant fear of your best friends offing you

I'll agree with this, but I also think The Godfather 1 and 2 are incredibly overrated.
>>
>>79598965
This film drove me to see the Godfather, of which 2/3 is way better than Goodfellas. This happened when I was 13, what's your excuse?
Maybe kids today have too many options. I saw Goodfellas on TV and had to go buy the Godfather DVDs myself with money made mowing lawns.

The godfather is only about 20 minutes longer than goodfellas.

the second one is an hour longer

idk goodfellas was pretty late in his career

Sometimes when I suffer sleep deprivation my existance get mind fucked by italian movies

>trying to sleep
>keep seeing visions of that talking morry wig guy, getting small sharp knife into head
>guys act normal

Same thing happened after watching several seasons of sopranos, italians are sick and disgusting and their existance is bizarre.
