Just watched this movie. This was absolutely fantastic. I loved the acting of Kichijiro, especially, he was probably one of my favorite characters in the movie. It was one of those films that really hit me in the stomach, and I'm kind of a fan of that sort of film. What did /tv/ think of it?

I couldn't buy spiderman, driver, or neeson as Portuguese monks. The story was interesting and the Japanese persecutors were good actors especially the mediator/translator guy. Overall I could see the passion put into it by Scorsese and it was enjoyable.
Pretty good movie except it didn't show Jesuits for what they really are and portrayed them as good-hearted people sincerely dedicated to their stated cause rather than ends-justify-means change agent saboteurs dispatched to various societies to inculcate Roman influence into burgeoning governments around the globe.
The Japanese were fully in the right and I have no sympathy for the spies and saboteurs using the cloak of religion to make-right their intense wrongdoing.

I also found it ironic that they were genuine believers, but then I don't know a whole lot about Jesuit motives and doctrine overseas.

Loved this film. Really struck a nerve in me.
Especially fond of the on-screen chemistry between the Jesuit-bros Garfield and Driver.
Wish they had stayed together longer.
they should have converted royalty and top dogs so others would follow.
here's what /tv/ favorite E. Michael Jones thinks about Silence

I read his article in Culture Wars this month. He expanded on the point about the anti-missionary sentiment in the 60's and how it was really the result of leftist "anti-colonialism" (which was really just a front for socialist internationalism eliminating all competition).

LOL
only on 4chins could you hear from someone who reads Culture Wars
I've been struggling with an understanding of the movie since I saw it. I appreciate EMJ 's take since he's guaranteed to have the most insightful take.
