Burning hydrogen doesn't involve a carbon atom at all. It goes right back to water.

This is why hydrogen-powered cars are so desirable, as their exhaust is steam condensing to water, if they can solve issues like safe hydrogen "gas tanks" and gas stations as well as efficient splitting of water, say, by solar panels or some such.
