You've answered your own question. A movie that focuses on action and does it very well is quite rare these days. Usually in America you get over the top explosion fests like Transformers or White House Down, or Olympus has Fallen. Very rare to have one that doesn't end in stupid amounts of explosions, and has correct gun handling techniques, reloading timing, melee combat, etc. It's just like The Raid/2 in that the fighting takes center stage to all else. If you don't like action, it's not for you. Stop taking film so seriously, let yourself have fun. Or go watch any of the tens of thousands of other movies out there that focus on whatever aspect of movies appeals most to you.

I liked it. It was fun, and at he end of the day, isn't that what you want out of an action movie? Was it a work of art? Probably not. But it was beautifully choreographed movie, and the fact that they didn't have a goddamned cut every second or a shitton of shaky camera work was fantastic. I hope more movies cut that shit out, start using more steadycam work and long shots.

Im kinda confused about the hype for these movies... Theyre not bad, just... I dont get this excitement, theyre not THAT good. Just a slightly above average run of the mill hollywood action movie in my opinion.

Some of the fights got a little repetitive too in this last one, I wish he improvised more, like with the pencil. Not to say there weren't good fights. I thought the silencer bit in the subway station was funny.
I felt like almost every big fight had John on the floor with a guy in his legs while shooting other guys waaay too much.

Well-choreographed action without shakey camera bullshit that ruins it. Scenes aren't undercut with quips all the time. There isn't a poor romance subplot to keep women from bitching. The world building is done well, we see interesting elements of this underworld without someone walking Wick around and explaining how every fucking thing works. Dialogue does not consist of two actors sharing exposition to get to the next gag/plot point. The main character has sympathetic emotional motivation, and is prevented from being a dark brooding edgelord or irreverent joker, but without the emotional grounding turning into melodrama and making him an obnoxiously whiny bitch.

Yeah I thought the compensated P30s were much cooler. At least the sommelier acknowledged that he loved HKs. It was cool that he ended up using 1911s towards the end.
I loved some of the less apparent but thoughtful choices as well, like how Cassian's (only briefly seen clearly) handgun was a Strike One. The only thing I'd like to have seen was some CZs: when half the movie is set in Europe with classy assassins, you'd expect some CZs.

Na it was still great but I think it lacked the relatability of the first film and the fights were a bit blander.

Club Fight in 1 > Rome Rave & Art Exhibit

The latter two were awesome set-pieces that got me hyped but then it kinda felt like nothing really happened. I was fucking pumped when John jumped on stage but then he just jumped off and walked through the crowd shooting people.

It was pretty much just body shot head shot body shot head shot body shot armbar takedown headshot on repeat the whole movie. There wasn't even any rad infiltration to either scene other than placing his guns in advance.

Entire Club scene from infiltration to exit is one of my favorite fight scenes of all time.

And while learning more about the league of hitmen is neat I feel like the series is getting to caught up in its own lore. John Wick I was very straightforward about its message and goal and everything else was ancillary you get told what you need to know nothing more. Which added an allure where you wanted to know more but knew it was better that you didn't. JWI feels like a complete package whereas JWII feels like it was made because ohs shit you guys actually liked JW? Okay well let me think up some more.

Still loved it. Has some of the most creative back drops and set-ups for an action movie I've ever seen but it still grounds them and doesn't throw CG in everywhere. Little worried about the 3rd movie because I feel like John Wick vs. Everyone is going to be too over the top.

The shotgun was hype but it falls back on repetition again. He just kept blowing knees and then heads. He used it for all of maybe like a minute before ditching it too.

And by subway fight do you mean the knife fight with Common because ehh it has a great build up but I didn't think it was a highlight of the movie or anything.

Idk there just lacked a real big cathartic fight scene for me. Catacombs had the visuals down but felt like it was right at the cusp of greatness. Taking down the assassins coming after the 7mil was pretty good though. All of those were creative as hell.

Am I the only one who was really disappointed? It felt like watching a game on rails. Everything was too mechanical. Every action scene 5 goons enter from off screen, he shoots their knees then the head, and repeat 10 times till the action scene is over. There was no creativity, no particularly clever use of environment, and it just got boring after a while. I don't get the whole elaborate scene where he picks his guns when he kills everyone exactly the same way. Plus his magical suit which makes him invincible removed any sort of danger.

The melee fights were mostly jiu jitsu, again not much variety in the martial arts used.

And it was also hard to suspend disbelief when everyone is supposedly an assassin, and not one person can get a decent sneak attack on him? I get that it would end the movie to have someone outright kill John, but at the same time I'm supposed to believe that John is the only person on the planet who can shoot someone accurately? It was dumb and the plot in general was pretty shit.

Show starts in 40 mind. Can be there in 20.

It was neither meat nor fish. As someone else said The Raid was /lean/ and extremely crisp while The Raid II seems to have tried to be Ong Bak with Film Noir elements and the equation never quite came through.

Speaking of equations, it sort of made a similar mistake as The Equalizer in that sense.

Rather than The Office and The Warehouse The Raid II has The Prison and The Restaurant as the two main events with everything between being somewhat lazily-paced filler.

They couldn't do that again so by inevitability it's not THAT good but they did make an amazing sequel.


A little bit too capeshit at times for me and some scenes are laughably silly (the casual walking through the subway popping at eachother underarm with no one noticing) but it's made up for with some fabulous beautiful scenes and honestly peerless martial gun fu.

It was unironically Gun porn for Ju Jitsu black belts.

I really liked the film but couldn't help feeling how cheap it was. As some other anon commented the first film was all about John using his wits to kill the enemy, like dynamically hiding and setting up ambushes to systematically take out every guy with minimal danger and you could see how plausible it was, like there were not many occasions where you'd say "WOW MAN HE TOTALLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED THERE!"

In this film however all of the guys jump right in front of him and nobody has the brains to shoot him from a distance, and those who do shoot him decide to aim at his back/chest instead of head even if they're awfully close like the violin assassin who had a perfect shot at his head but instead decides to shoot at his back with a puny pistol.

I loved the action I just think they should have focused more on John cleverly using his environment to isolate and kill in a fast pace.

Not seen it yet, is the barmaid with the tattoos in this one? I legitimately fell in love with her
