Yeah, it's really good. It's told from the perspective of multiple characters and a lot of the book is how the characters deal with the artifacts being used in daily life (and other artifacts only used by stalkers) and other ways the Zone affects the town around it. The Zone in the book is a lot more dangerous than in the game and you have to plan your every move to avoid triggering something that will kill you.

Patched SoC and CoP aren't that buggy. At least for SoC there's a mod that fixes even more bugs too. Also all three games had their source codes leaked a few years ago and people are slowly fixing bugs and adding features to them. There is a lot more stuff that can break in Stalker compared to Metro since there's more stuff happening.
